RK Tunes Front Mount Intakes

Does anyone have experience installing RK Tunes front mount intakes on a 2015 S55? I have been battling MAF codes since installing the intakes. Smoke tested both intakes, no leaks. Just curious what others have experienced.

This thread https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2099493 outlines the mods on the car and the codes I'm dealing with.

It’s not just the RK Tunes intake. The problem is the MAF is calibrated based on the cross-sectional area of the stock tube. If the area at the MAF steps down (decreased area, increased velocity) or steps up (increased area, decreased velocity) the MAF detects the area differences during a cold start. It can affect cold start idle and it will feel like it’s about to stall if you drive off too soon. I have an Eventuri CF V2 intake and, when I start it, I don’t touch the throttle and wait at a minimum 30 sec before giving it gas to pull out of the garage.

M3SQRD with your startup process do you still get CEL/MAF codes? I've gone days with no codes and then all of the sudden they pop up. What you describe absolutely makes sense in terms of total air volume. I just don't know what my next step is? Especially if I want to stay with the large RK Tunes front mount intakes.

Project Gamma intakes, which look the same as RK Tunes intakes, have never given me any trouble with idle or CEL. I let the idle fall below 1k (maybe 10-12 seconds) before driving off.

With Eventuri V2, I’ve never received a CEL. Just a rougher startup without cold start. It actually was fine with cold start on so I’m not 100% sure it is the Eventuri that’s causing the rough idle. It could all be due to disabling the cold startup cycle.

The only time I had a CEL light was when I had MST intakes and I removed the top half of the passenger side box because it was rubbing my aftermarket charge pipes.
With the top half of the box installed, no issues.
So the box definitely helps keep out hot engine bay air.

Maybe it’s time for a custom tune
