I still prefer the rear of the E92, but the F82 takes every other angle.

E92 side profile can not be beat. just beautiful. and I like the rear fender flair on the E92 more as it doesn't look fat. I think that's why lot of folks prefer the F80 M3 over the M4.

F82 all day baby! Won't shed a tear for the e92 design. Now the f82 has some pretty big shoes to fill when it comes to driving dynamics and pretty much everything else ... Better be up to par with the EPS, turbos and all the other changes they've made.

Exterior wise, F82 definitely looks wider and lower, but E92 still looks great! E90 looked a bit dated compared to F80, which may be the reason I like the way F80 looks more than F82.

Interior wise, no really comparison here. Love the new interior. I have to be honest though, I really like the tuck in compartment on the door panel of e92 and the fact that the driver side door handle is differently designed than passenger side (as in you never hold onto those things from the driver's side). Also, I love the old cup holders (I know a lot of people hate it). Although the interior design is heavily eclipsed, I still appreciate how well thought out e92 interior is functionality wise.

I hope the plastic doesn't peel on the new one, hah. They probably will

F82 wins in every category (interior, exterior, performance), except for the rear bumper. E92 had more style with the screen insert.

Plus 45 pound difference in F82 DCT..really ?
What happened to lightweight design? Anybody knows why it went up so much..hard to believe if not a typo. :

The manual transmission lost weight, so that's part of it. And the DCT has to handle much more torque now, so that probably added some weight too.

Very cool to see them line up next to each other. Can't wait to see the real world comparisons once the cars are available including my own personal comparison

Great comparo Jason.

I think (especially in comparison to the E46 to E92 M3 changes) these exterior changes are definitely evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary. I would have preferred something leaning toward revolutionary.

i have come to realize. i have to much emotion for the E92. the pictures of the E92 are the ones on the BMW website which i viewed often. and brought back some memories.

with that said. i feels my view point is to bias atm. i didn't feel this way about the F80 vs E90 comparison.

The weight on the E92 M3 has to be wrong. I'm pretty sure I've seen conflicting info.

It is actually +89lb (40kg) for the DCT . It was 44lb (20kg) on the E9X.

As Mkoesel mentions, the 6MT weight was reduced by 26lb. It also seems the new DCT got heavier by 18lb .

EDIT: I think I just got what you meant, the weight penalty of DCT increased by 45lb (from +44lb to +89lb). Sorry, slow morning for me

Yep, it's a bummer.

As for his question about why the DCT had to gain weight to support more torque while the 6MT was able to shed weight under the same operating conditions - it's a good point. I suppose the older 6MT may have just been that overbuilt and happened to be ripe for optimization with lighter materials and more efficient design. Not sure if the DCT is already using the same optimizations (not all of which would necessarily even apply given that it's a totally different beast). If it is not then perhaps it would have been too costly to do so.

I was just thinking of the same thing. Instead of a taking say 10 mins to clean the bumper now its at least 15 mins or so...
