From F80 to F87 or G80?

Hi guys,

Former lurking forum member and current F80 owner. I've been contemplating the switch to either an F87 M2 or a G80. The new ride would stay unmodified and used as a daily.

Not a huge fan of the G80 aesthetics, but hoping the tech/performance makes up for the lack of looks. Price difference between the 2 isn't a major concern.

Is anyone here a dual owner that can share their opinions? Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I went from an OG 6mt F87 to my dct F82. The F82 is a much more refined/comfortable car compared to the F87. If it's a daily driver I would look at going G80 over the F87. The F87 also has almost no sound deadening compared to the F80 so it's quite noisy in the cabin. The F87 with stock suspension is also quite stiff.

F87 is a really fun car but I enjoy driving the F82 much more.

I had the F82 and F87 at the same time. My original plan was to continue using my M4 6MT as a daily while I’d use the F87 DCT as track/canyon build. Although my use case for the F87 was different than yours, I did get a few takeaways that might be helpful. First, the F87 interior is a noticeable step down from the M3/4 - for example, the seats seemed like they were from a base 3 series. It was still a nice enough car but it’s hard to ignore the obvious step down so I wouldn’t want the M2 as a daily. And second, the shorter wheelbase compared to the F80 made the car a little more darty than I’d be interested in for a daily. Great for some canyon roads but maybe less so just driving in late afternoon the traffic.

With respect to the the G80, it’s a great daily. I’ve spent a significant amount of time with the G80 on track and I had one for work for almost 3 weeks. The transmission basically does all the work for you and the interior is really pleasant to be in (with the base seats atleast). Frankly, I don’t see the G80 as anything more than a daily because the weight is obvious and it doesn’t have any of the rawness of the F series cars.

I just can't see getting past the horrid looks of the G80. I tried, oh lord how I tried.

It's just one of the ugliest cars ever made.

I did a 24 hour test drive in a G80. I was hoping to love it cause the spec was awesome.
After a day with it I knew, I needed to continue my search for the perfect F80.
The G80 is a better car than the F80 in every way - but it’s not an F80.
