Found out this Torx bolt on the aluminum brace was missing - Any issue?

Hey guys,

Recently had some suspension work done on my 2016 m4 Comp. On my drive back home from the shop I figured I would stop and make sure everything looked good under the hood. I was disappointed to find out that one of the Torx bolts circled below was not there. So I drove back to the shop and they apologized for it and reinstalled that missing Torx bolt. I had them confirm that everything else was torqued correctly and it was as I watched them retorque everything.

My anxiety kicked in when I realized that I drove a few miles without this bolt in place. I know that the aluminum brace has 14 bolts to hold it in place but this missing bolt was right on top of the strut, so I don’t know if that makes it any more critical than the others. Could there have been any issues? It was mostly flat road that I drove on for that time being. I know the manual says scary stuff like “driving without aluminum brace may cause body damage”. Is it possible that the shock tower would have been more prone to slight movement without that bolt in place?

Appreciate any feedback

In that short amount of time, I don't think anything happened.

Your fine....go to BMW and grab another one and/or put a normal bolt in its place with a washer under it. The tower cap will cover it

Well the shop installed it when I went back, as mentioned originally.

Any sure fire way to check if this could have damaged anything??

Nothing is wrong. Guaranteed that the top hat didn't move simply due to the weight of the car and the fact that the other two bolts were in place. Now if you went off a jump rally style and the suspension was fully extended, then you should probably worry. But then again, there'd be plenty more to worry about if you had a situation like that.

Seriously, you're okay.

Wouldn’t a wheel alignment rule out if there are any issues? Assuming of course everything checks out and is in the green.
