M3 vs M4 side skirts

So I'm hearing that on an M3 you need to cut the side skirts for the jack points, is this true as well for the M4? I saw Tommy L's video of his M3 and him doing it but haven't seen an M4 install them and talk about cutting. So do I need to cut the side skirts for my M4 for the jack points?

The reason you don't have to do it for an M4 is because they are made for M4s and not M3s.

I ordered your set, and they aren't a direct fit. They need to be modified to fit properly on my M3. Otherwise they stick out about an inch or more on each side....

M3 and M4 have different specs. one size cannot be a perfect match for both models (but its not noticeable in my opinion)

its normal for it to be slightly out on the M3

I have OEM M Performance rocker panel blades on my M3. They are designed for the M4 and like others have said there's a slight difference in rocker panel length between the sedan and coupe. The mounting holes does not line up either on the M3. Once installed though, unless you were down on your knees staring at it you won't notice the difference. It's maybe 1/4" gap from the edge of the blade to your wheel arches. You do have to cut around your jack points for install but it's not difficult. If you get aftermarket blades they might be specific to an M3 but some don't come pre-drilled either. Self tapping screws every ~foot is all you need.

The M3 needs side skirts that are about 1/4” longer than the stock M4 side skirts. But the reality is, this difference is so minor I don’t notice it at all once I installed the M4 skirts on my M3. If I squat down and stare at my side skirts front and rear I will see they are about 1/8” short on both ends from being 100% flush.

Would the F30 M Performance side skirt extension work better than the M4 version? Anyone run those instead? I'm curious what the difference is?

So on the M4, BMW instructs you to drill into the body of the car to install these factory accessory skirts?

The F30 performance skirts are cut straight and don't flare out like on the M3 and M4. Therefore, they will barely be visible and won't look right on an M3.

Get the M4 skirts. Their contour is almost the same as the M3's side sills and looks much better than if you used F30 side blades.

Those three screws, do I HAVE to drill additional holes for them to hold the side skirt?

I’ve got the xph cf side skirts on my M3 after removing a set of iND modified M4 factory black side skirts.

- Yes they are a tad shorter but after you install them, you really won’t notice

- you will need to drill into the xph ones. There are no holes to use. Make your own about 4-6” apart with VHB tape

- I also pinged Mike in a panic because these do not fit like the OEM modified sets because there is no cutout. I at first thought they were not going to fit but in reality, they will not sit in the same location as the OEM units. These will stick out further, assuming you used the same end points as reference.

- due to point above, you will need to be cognizant of where you place this in relationship to your plastic jack points. Not too close where it butts up against, but slightly offset.

- I use a QuickJack system and I just need to make sure the jack pad doesn’t hit the skirt.

I like the more aggressive look with how far they stick out. I always thought the OEM was too far in. You’re not going to find a factory CF skirt for F8X and I thought these were a bargain considering how much the other units sell for.
