Any grippier tyres that work in cold conditions?

Here in England it's constantly around 5C at the moment and the standard Michelin PSS tyres wheelspin at even the slightest hint of throttle. Even in the summer they are not great.

Are there any grippier alternatives that still work in the cold and rain? I just want the rear to grip instead of spin out of corners.

If you wanted to run two sets: PSS in warm weather, PA4 in cold weather
One set: AS3+ for a good balance

Michelin AS3+ sound perfect after reading up, but they don't sell them in the UK for some reason

I can't justify winter tyres - it doesn't snow where I am and 5C seems right on the edge of winter tyre capability. Besides, it still doesn't grip all that well in the summer on the standard PSS tyres.

Any other all seasons that have enough grip in the summer or are there performance summer tyres such as the Bridgestone RE71 that work a bit better than the PSS tyres when it gets a bit chilly? I don't mind getting wider than standard tyres at the rear.

I don't think the AS3+ has been released anywhere yet. They'll be a good compromise for you. Don't get the Bridgestone RE71, they'll be just as bad or worse than the PSS in the cold.

Thanks. I think I've narrowed it down to either importing the AS3+ from the US when they arrive, or either putting the 295/35/19 PSS on the rear, or swapping them all for Yokohama AD08R's which apparently work pretty well in the cold. Not sure what to do yet!

Just an FYI, I have an order in for the AS3+ in 265/35 - 285/35. Should be available beginning of March in the US.

Those Yoko's are going to be worse in the cold vs PSS

If you can't get the AS3(+) -- the new DWS06 will meet your needs but give up a bit more in handling for cold weather traction.

I'm down in Brighton, so not too far from you. Like you say, the temperature is not cold enough for winter tyres, but cold enough to affect the grip of the Michelins when they are not warmed up.

Several people on here have said that the Yoko AD08R's work well in the cold but maybe they are thinking of warmer climates than ours. It's a real dilemma, especially as the dealer says that tyres without the BMW star will make the car drive really badly.

I just want to put my foot to the floor without the rear flailing around.
