Options for more power

Hi all

I have a 2017 m3, manual trans, non ZCP. This is my daily driver with factory warranty. I see a lot of options for coding the car. My goals are: more power, better sound from exhaust, better traction. It seems like ALex at ALpine is the way to go. I'm thinking the Stage 1 code will help the power and get some burbles from exhaust. I'm kind of confused about the EDM and differential options. I dropped the car 1.5 inches with KLH springs. Car looks awesome and I don't know if I need to touch the EDM. But what do you guys think of the CS EDM, the GTS differential, and the EURO MDM? Not sure which way to go.

Thanks

I have Alex's tune and really like it. You have a ZCP, so go for stage 2 at least. Stage 1 will give you nothing. Be careful with the CS EDC. Until I got the MPHAS the CS EDC was awful. Not sure how they will be with the springs you have. Otherwise I don't think you'll really regret anything else you do. My car has:
Stage 2
CS DCT
Disable ASD
CS Power Sterring
CS differential
CS EDC
CS Traction control
No Dazzle High Beam assist (my favorite of everything)
Adaptive Headlight 2
Unlock doors when engine is turned off
Radio/iDrive shutdown when car is turned off and door is opened
Brake Force Display
Removal of iDrive Accept Warning
Removal of Seat Belt Warnings
Inband Ringtone
Removal of Camera Warnings
Change gong to Rolls Royce/i3 gong
Driver seat moves back when ignition is turned off
iDrive 6 lite

You can code the steering, suspension(edc), and differential.
Most people go GTS steering and diff, and CS edc. Along with euro MDM.

i think you're confusing edm and edc.

you can give it a try. most people do that combo and love it. I'm one of them. GTS steering and euro MDM make the biggest change. the edc changes are subtle and kind of hard to notice.

How does Alpine solution compare to "Thor the M flasher"?

I like that Thor offers ability to change the flash as much as you want. But I don't know if it's missing any features.

Can you upgrade these features with Carly software?

TIA

No - Carly only does "feature" coding (such as coding off ASD, etc.), and cannot change any drivetrain-related items.

Just curious why do you say the CS EDC is awful. I am on ZCP and the CS EDC was a noticeable difference from the stock ZCP EDC. Car handles definitely better with the CS EDC. As far as I know the Euro MDM is more aggressive than even the CS MDM but I have the CS MDM and it is fine for my driving unless you want more slip that the Euro MDM offers. I'm also on the Alex tune on Stage 2+ and it has been phenomenal with not a single issue so far.

Also, the GTS DCT is better compared to the CS DCT in terms of clamping force if I remember correctly as it was being discussed in another thread.

DCT was personal preference.

For the EDC, i wasn't able to get onto the throttle as well and as early coming out of a corner with the CS EDC and ZCP springs. The rear just didn't plant, and was prone to lighting up the tires instead of powering out. The ride itself wasn't bad, but the rear end was noticably more twitchy so I went back to ZCP EDC. With the MPHAS the car feels significantly better with the CS coding. I can get on power much earlier and heavier without wheel spin, and the rear is more predictable. After going back and forth a couple of times and trying the different coding options on both ZCP and MPHAS springs I found that the CS EDC and ZCP combo was greatly improved when it came to handling bumps and normal around town driving, but less so for performance driving. The ZCP EDC and MPHAS was incredibly harsh for normal driving, but better than stock for performance driving although the rear still was more twitchy than I like. The CS EDC and MPHAS is the most comfortable combo for normal driving, and also the better combination for performance driving for the reasons I stated before.

Fair points mate. I usually do tight B-road drives and I find it much better for me at least though I tend to agree it is way better for daily driving around town and handling bumps. Maybe I am not driving the car hard enough.

At the end of the day all that really matters is you still like driving it, right? :
