Autodip for 437m wheels
So I've been looking at getting my OEM 437m wheels powder coated gloss black and wanted to see how they looked in person and live with them a little before paying the money and never being able to go back. I looked at the typical temporary choice being Plastidip but I've never had great experience with it, always too grainy or runny, never a nice smooth finish. I decided to try Autodip which is a fairly new product that is essentially upscale Plastidip that has a smooth and glossy finish. The cans are about $20 a piece as opposed to Plastidp being $5 but the Autodip cans are fairly larger. In total I needed 4 cans to do the 10 total coats according to the Autodip website to ensure durability and to make it easier to peel off. I ordered 5 cans to play it safe. Below are some pictures of the wheels after being cleaned, masked off, sprayed and then finished on the car.
I'm happy with how they came out and am glad I could see how they look in person. Overall, I like this stuff much more than Plastidip, it looks much nicer and dries quicker, good stuff for a temporary change and a nice budget mod Last edited by Soap; 07-09-2016 at 07:40 PM.. |

The finish looks good, but the all black look really shrinks the wheels. You lose so much depth. Aw well, I've never been a huge fan of black wheels for that reason.

Not a fan of black wheels BUT this is a really nice option if I want to change things up.
OP thanks very much for posting your experience with this product. I do have one question for you. How does it come off?

Peels right off! It comes of in one continuous "sheet" if done carefully. That's the beauty of it, can go back to stock in probably 30-45 minutes.

Yeah, I will agree that the wheels appear to shrink a bit when in all black. I also have really meaty 295 tires in the back which doesn't help either.

Looks REALLY good, never thought about the "shrinking the wheel" effect though. I'd be curious to know how good it held up over time according to the OP since this is a really old thread.

Just hyperdipped the wheels. Turned out really good ! These stuff way better than plastidip or autodip. Would recommend for temporary changing the look on the M4 !
