unless you plan to have the M4 as a non-daily driver, you are going to look like Douche Dad lugging his baby out of a coupe.

Go with the 4-door. It will serve you a good long time before you need any more room than that. My E36 4-door served the family for 10 years as the kids were growing up.

Oh, ever try to put a baby/car seat in the back of a coupe? Go (to the dealer) and try it on a 335i before you get all tingly about the coupe. It is NOT fun!

Imbalanced.

To OP: very important in my view to have 'buy in' (ugh!) on any major purchases. So if you desire an ///M-car discuss w/ your wife - as I did - why and how what you desire is 'reasonable' (or 'reasoned' ) & the 4-dr would make the most sense.

I am hankering now for a faster/'smaller' 2-dr from Germany and, well, I need explain fully why it is reasonable (1) financially, (2) emotionally to my spouse .. damnit, she's not 'there' yet

Best regards,

Here's what you do: 2011 E90 M3 now and F82 M4 in 2014-15. Do it and you won't believe how you almost missed out on the S65 V8. You only live once.
I've been thinking about buying '13 M3 so I could get it optioned the way I wanted and not beat to hell. But the cost is really buggin me...

So I'm also thinking damn, if the F82 is gonna be so much faster I'll kick myself being stuck in $1k payments. Right now you can't buy a tune for M3, but the new one prob get 500+ hp with just a chip. Ridic.

I like your idea above though... I hate the idea of paying new costs/taxes. But it's hard to find the options the way I want - 2011.75+ model.

If money is an issue, the last thing I'd be doing is invalidating the warranty on a brand new 80k car.

So I wonder how those passing judgement will know whether the car is your daily driver? Maybe you just mean your neighbor down the street?

In general, strangers don't know the full story of your life so there isn't much value to be gained from their opinions, and even less value to be gained from presuming or guessing their opinions. Some things are dead-obvious. If you punch your kids in the head, yep, you're a douche (much worse actually) and people will know. But if you drive a certain type of car? It's just a bit neurotic to worry about some obscure ramifications of that, don't you think?

I've carted my kids around in convertibles regularly since the day my first was born. So, if I am a douche, well, at least I am a happy douche who has lots of fun.

M3 owners are definitely not Neurotic!!! If there was ever the definition of the word, you can see it in every post made on this forum

Way to avoid the point he brought up about why you'd call him a Douche Dad for having a kid in a coupe... Sucking up to the mod, are you?

Chiping doesn't invalidate the warranty. Supercharging does I'm pretty sure.

Personally I think that sloping front hood looks like they dropped something on it by accident. Looks like a sandwich in the front. Terrible.

Any modification to the car that leads or could lead to failure may be used as a reason to invalidate the warranty.

Yes that is true , I have seen the cost of failure with some owners have to repair the car at their own cost. BMW will void your warranty.

I have ECS tune in my 328 never had any issues with BMW on my warranty, but I'm sure if there was something with the computer system they might find reason. Anyway I'm on the extended now so they cover very little.

Sorry if I missed it, but is there an estimated production date for the 2014 M3? I know the M4 may not be available until late next summer.

Thanks.

The M3 is currently expected to debut next year in Geneva, though we may very well have the official info before then. Assuming that happens, production should begin around that time as well, hopefully with deliveries in thr first half of next year.

In the meantime, there are still rumors of a concept in Frankfurt later this year.

As for M4s, I don't think those will be in owners hand until 2015.

Argh. I would only want a coupe. I'll probably just go with a Boxster S since my lease is up next year in August.

Well, if you don't strictly need the back seat then I would certainly not fault you for that. There's also the C7 Z06 coming which should be a ridiculously fast and aggressive car.

I'll pass on the C7. Even if I wanted that I think the front bumper would come off the first time up my steep driveway. Although no more scraping after that first time. Hmmm....
