As long as I do better than what my X5M does, I'll be ecstatic. The X5M has a tiny gas tank and in the city I got 13mpg. I had to fill up twice a week living here in Atlanta. annoying!!!

I would expect average MPG to settle in at around 20mpg or so for most people. I think that most cite about 16 or 17 mpg as typical for their E9x M3s, so 20mph would be nearly a 20% increase which I think is doable.

i should clarify my "city" driving is moderate traffic. some stop and go. traffic lights. nothing like back in LA days with parking lot on 405. haha.

interesting. didn't know there was such a big variance in the N54/N55. i imagine its just from sample rate and actually how frequently you get into boost.

I think that during the first several months MPG will be the worst the car can produce - no matter if its in the city or on the highway. I just know myself. Once the novelty wear off, then I expect to have at least 20-21 average. Gladly, the stop and go traffic is rare where I live, and I normally avoid driving during those times of the day.

curb weight for the 1M is 3296lbs or 1495kg per BMW, and weighed in at 3340-3360 in multiple tests.

according to BMW, the m4 weighs ~3300 lbs, with the curb weight at 1495 kg, as was the 1m. they have the exact same curb weight per BMW.

the m3 in comparison, is listed at 1520 kg which is 3351 lbs.

3351 - 3296 = 55 lbs

no idea where you are getting your numbers from. I also don't know where I said it would get better mileage. I said it would get slightly worse mileage than the 1m, and notably better than the current m3.

Two things :

- Lets go with BMW numbers. You are taking a magazine number in one car and bmw in other. Not apples to apples. According to BMW, 1M weighs 3296 lbs.

- I get my M3 number from the sticky thread in this forum It clearly states 3583 lbs. Where are you getting 3350 lbs from? That would be more than 350 lbs lighter than the outgoing M3!

3583 - 3296 = 287 pounds. Thats an extremely big difference. Just that difference alone can contribute so much in the mpg calculations in addition to the 40% more power.

These are bmws official numbers. And it's literally all over this forum, and has been discussed quite a bit. I also already posted these in the post you quoted. Including stating that BMW quotes 1495 kg aka 3296 lbs for the 1m and m4. Did you even read what I wrote?

Per BMW

M4 : 1495 kg
M3 : 1520 kg
1M : 1495 kg

No clue where your 3583 is coming from.

It's all about how you drive it obviously. I normally average 25mpg with 80% city driving. 31-33 on the hwy depending on if I can keep it under 85mph or not.

I took it to an auto-x day with the Porsche club weekend before last so that hurt mpg and I'm at 22mpg right now, only hwy driving was about 20 miles to the track and back.

On the other end of the spectrum, I did see 17mpg on the trip readout during my first two days of ownership (I was obviously having a bit of fun with the new car) but that's the lowest I've ever seen. Right now 22mpg is the lowest I've seen since and that's with autox mixed in.

According to XCAR BMW says the car will get 34 mpg combined. Converted into US MPG= 28.4 mpg

I believe those figures are DCT with start/stop and I think theses numbers are possible if you consider the amount of R&D that was put into this engine plus the weight figures of the F8x. I avg 20.8 mpg in my e39 which is close the manufacture stated figures so I imagine I'll be getting about ~27 mpg since i'm going with the 6 MT. My daily commute mostly involves freeway but I have to drive about 5 mins uphill when coming home.

There is no way the M3 is going to get better mileage than a 335 or in fact based on what you are saying better than a 328.

My average mpg is 24.7 mpg in my manual 6sp 335i. This is small city commute, almost no stop and go traffic, but stoplights etc. At 80 mph it gets 30mpg. EPA estimates were 17 - 20 - 26. EPA actual combined is 23.5, significantly higher than original estimate.

I expect similar mpg in a F80 -- 20-25 around town, 28-31 mpg highway.

I think we should run a poll for what the EPA estimates will be. My guess: 16 - 20 - 26 for F80 w/ DCT.

I believe the M3/M4 only get a 60 litre tank? The E9x cars had a 63 litre tank. Would have been great if they had gone for 70 litre to extend the range and time between fill ups. The M5 has a bigger tank than the rest of the F10 range for this reason.
Still, I won't complain if it's 20% better economy wise. The E9x was a thirsty car and when you're paying the equivalent of $140 here in Europe for every tank of fuel every little helps.

I never get less than 18.5 MPG in my e92 M3. 60City/40High

In traffic I just the DCT auto mode, it helps.

Maybe I wasnt clear. I thought you were saying thats the exclusive city number. I also get 18 mpg combined because I get 23 mpg in highway.

But if I drive in traffic, like real city traffic 100%, I can't get over 12 mpg.
