19x10 Square Setup for Track Use (Photos)

There's been some discussion about a square setup for track use on the F8X. Particularly with 19 inch wheels and CCB's.

I just finished mounting Four Apex Arc-8 19x10 ET 25 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 265/35-19 tires. I ordered the wheels direct from Apex and the tires from Tire Rack (heat cycled) and my BMW SC mounted and balanced them.

Clearance looks good all around. Lots of clearance between the CCB rotors and wheel. Suspension components clear fine. I tested the car lock-to-lock without any rubbing. I am running just a bit of extra camber up front (-2.0 vs factory -1.5) but will be increasing the camber to -3.0 shortly. I wanted to check clearance before I increased the camber just to see how they fit.

I haven't been to the track yet with these but I'm looking forward to extending my tire life significantly by being able to move the wheels around to any corner on the car to balance wear. (The PSC2's are NOT a directional tire).

Anyway, here are the photos if anyone is interested:

Looks good. Question, is the car lowered? I'm thinking of using the rear 359m's (from the E92 ZCP) all around on my M4 but am a little worried if the front will fit 10j +25 at stock height.

The car is not lowered. Stock M adaptive suspension. The only applicable mod might be the additional 0.5 degrees of camber I have up front (-2.0 total). However, in looking at the car right now, I don't think the extra camber matters for fitment though. I expect these wheels and tires would fit just fine on a pure stock suspension. I'll likely be pushing the camber to -3.0 today...

Can you push the camber to -3 up front without camber plates?

Front camber is not adjustable on the F8X. You need camber plates for any sort of front camber adjustment.

Very nice thanks for sharing. In for impressions of the MPSC2's and lack of stagger. I might be switching to these tires next.

Working on increasing the camber right now. I can only get about -2.4 with the GC plates before I lose access to one of the hex bolts that will need to be tightened. I will start a new thread regarding max adjustment on the GC plates...

Your car looks great! I'd be very interested how that square setup works on track...I guess steering must be a bit special with 10 in front...isn't there too much understeering then?

Maybe more camber would help, but I've seen guys chunk MPSC2 in one day on a stock M4. Guy was pissed and had to go home on the first day of a 3 days track weekend.

The GC plates are made with two setups. Once past a given camber angle, you lose access to two of the bolts (as you mentioned), you need to switch setup from that point and use the little shims provided and the retaining plate instead of the washers. With that setup, you'll be able to increas camber even more while still being able to use 4 retaining bolts.

Fall Line did the initial install. I have no extra "shims" (unless they are already installed). I expect the plate you must be referring to is the chrome metal plate under the two outboard hex screws. Does that need to be flipped around somehow?

Do you have any additional info or photos of what needs to be done? Thx...

Are you saying that the inboard bolts just get moved to the two outboard holes in the plate? Is that it? I see that there are threaded holes below...

That appears to be the trick! Thanks CanAutM3! Got a solid -3.0 now on each side.

I looked at a bunch of Wings for the M4. The one I chose was imported from Germany. It is made by Motorsport24. (ACS also makes a couple of nice ones) IND can special order it for you if you want one. They also worked with Fall Line to custom make a couple of underside trunk mounts for me. I wanted something a bit more substantial than the default Motorsport24 mounting plates since I track my car...

Yes, that's it.

Also note that no washers should be installed on the retaining plate (as opposed to what is shown on the picture), otherwise there is very little tread left for the bolts.

The shims I am talking about are two plastic pieces (one for each camber plate) that slot below the retaining plate. They have two holes for the bolts to go through and a rounded side that rests against the bearing to hold it in place. They can only be installed with the secondary setup, there is no room for them in the primary setup. They came in a small bag inside the main box.

I started building my car in August of 2014. I was working directly with BMW M Studio in Munich. My intent was to build a look-a-like of the legendary M3 GTS they had at the M test center in Nurburg. My intent was to plate the car as "M4 GTS"...

However, about 6 months AFTER we started working up my build, BMW decided to build a real "M4 GTS"... So that kind of took the "M4 GTS" plate possibility off the table... "M4 GTX" keeps the spirit of the build without trying to be a poser.

Plus "X" is traditionally a variable... So, who's to say, is it a GT3 spec car, GT4 spec car, etc...
