Looking at some alternative

I visited a few dealerships in Northern California and cannot believe that some of them still have about $4k-$6k mark-up (over msrp) on their 2016 M3 and M4. The sales associates were candid to me. There is LITTLE room for negotiation. Fair enough. I moved on. Then I found a pristine 2015 pre-owned whose first owner was BMW, so the maintenance agreement still applies.

This is the same build as the 2016 zcp I have at the vpc.

2015 non zcp
Yas exterior and SO inter. CF roof and int.
ccb. all the bells and whistles that you could check in 2015.
mileage is approximately 7,000
asking price is $67k.

I was thinking if I should drop the 2016 I ordered and purchase this. Then came another offer in the mix which just adds more conflict to the decision making process. I made an offer to purchase a C63S to a dealer in Southern California a few days ago. I offered $15k below msrp. Finally this morning the CA emailed me and accepted my offer. Dealership is located 2 hours away from me. It does not have the sport exhaust and cf interior. But the numbers are more favorable than the numbers on the 2016 I have at the vpc. First world problems.

I also test drove a brand new m3 and m4. Both have zcp. Let me tell those guys that are knocking the sound of the F8X. Listen to it in person because the internet videos don't do justice to its sound. Ride comfort in sport+ setting is stiffer than the sport+ setting in the C63S that I test drove a few weeks ago. Compared to the RC-F that I also test drove a few weeks ago it is probably identical, but the RC-F rattled more. I felt the sport seats in the C63S hugged me more than the zcp seats. Steering feels more heavy on the F8X as compared to the C63S. In this regard the RC-F takes the far back seat that it is not even worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence with the M3 and C63S. As for interior noise the artificial engine sound that is fed through the speakers on the F8X is awful in my opinion and it contributes to a very loud interior noise. Put the settings to sport+and the sound increases. Coding to eliminate this artificial sound is going to be the #1 priority should I decide to purchase the F80 (whether the used 2015 sitting at the showroom or wait for my 2016 stuck at vpc).

I babied the cars during the test drive out of respect to the sales man since he was doing me a favor. I told him I was not going to buy it and was only there to experience the ride.

I would not get the 2015 one as no break in service was ever done on it, and it ran on the break-in oil until 6,000 miles. Also this scar may have been used on the BMW performance center for track use.

The car also doesn't come with the 2VZ wheels on the VIN report so that's a turn-off for me.

If you're on the fence, go with the C63S value play.

How are you verifying the break-in service?

I went into the dealer for this car as well and asked a CA to pull the report. The break-in service was not done and the CA said that's why they couldn't CPO this car.

If it was done it would usually show up on CarFax, but the best way to check is asking the dealer to pull the report as there's usually additional information that's not listed on CarFax.

That's why I asked. I would never relay on Carfax for service data. Frankly, I wouldn't rely on Carfax for anything. All reporting is voluntary...

You are talking about the Yas Marina Blue with SO interior correct? Not the YMB with the black interior? I asked the CA on Sunday why they could not put a "cpo" label on it. He said their dealership does not certify used cars. Fyi, the car comes with clear plastic film installed in the front through part of the roof. I am not sure if it was Xpel. I did a close inspection and noticed a little portion of the film turning yellow and starting to peel. I was going to make an offer until I found out it is not a CPO. And the asking price is a bit high imho as I could get a brand new and very well optioned 2016 C63S for approximately $5k more.

Yes that's the same car I was talking about. The price was too high by $5000 and the fact that break-in service was not done were what drove me away. Not to mention, these two cars could've been used for tracking purposes at BMW thermal.

Why would you give up a 2016 ZCP for a 2015 non-ZCP because you are a little impatient over the delayed delivery of your M3?? Even if it is a few months, it would be worth the wait.

You are correct. I should wait. And I got a phone call from BMW NA earlier and got some good news which made me happy.

BMW's used in Performance school are crushed or their parts are used for training purposes. They can't be sold to public.

We were told at the Performance School (SC) that the cars are sold off with full disclosure that they were performance school cars. Now if a dealer purchased one for resale, would they tell you????

I could be wrong but I believe all performance center cars are registered in NJ as they are owned by BMW NA. So if the car wasn't originally registered in NJ then it's probably a car the original owner didn't care to take care of despite free service (which seems silly).

Give it some patience and wait for the 2016. It will worth it.

If you got the c63s and you did not like it after buying in, you will always wonder if the M is a better car.
