European delivery insurance
I know that you get 14 days with European Delivery but I am cutting it close to complete all that we want to do. Dont really want to buy another 30 days insurance when I only maybe need an extra day. Anyway, I tried to shift my pick up date but could not. If I pick up on 10/20 in your calculation what would be the last day I am covered. 11/2 or 11/3? Thanks

We needed the car for an extra day. Picked it up 10/16 and returned 10/30 of last year and it wasn't a problem when we did up the documents at the Welt.
So considering your days are in the middle of the week and you don't have to worry about dropping off on a weekend or after hours I would say you would likely be fine. If you are going for 11/03 this would be th equivalent of what we got. Perhaps just ask your SA or ask at the Welt. They were very accommodating BTW we didn't have to pay extra either. |

At the welt they also made me sign a document saying that I would turn in the the car by the 14th day of coverage. The log in out also stated to me that when the car is dropped off, both registration and insurance must still be active(which on the 14th day they are). You can also email the welt and ask them directly.

Just because someone turned in the car on the 15th day without a problem, it doesn't mean the car was covered. You don't want to drive without insurance.
If your time is really tight, you can try to move your delivery time as early as possible on 10/20, do an expedited delivery, skip the factory tour, then start driving. Drop off at the last hour could be tricky, as traffic around most cities in late afternoon is horrendous. |

Spoke to Welt and they said speak to the dealer. I decided to speak to the lady in charge of ED at BMWusa who was very helpful. She said, as I thought, that the insurance would end on the 2nd of November. Really don't want to pay an extra $389 for one day. Just have to spend an extra day in Amsterdam, could be worse!

FYI -- It's not just insurance, it's also registration. You drive the car with expired tags in EU, who knows the penalty.
Enjoy your trip though Cheers,

Whatever the penalty, if it's in Belgium it'll require an assload of paperwork. You might as well hire a clerk.

You did not mention your final drop-off location, but unless it's Munich, the site is not at the airport. Therefore, you will have to get a taxi to catch the flight anyway. Just drop the car off a day or two early, and enjoy the final destination (likely to be a major European city) on foot or public / hired transport. $389 buys a lot of taxi rides ! Driving in most European cities is neither enjoyable, nor practical. So just ditch the car and focus on focus on having fun, with the drop off procedure well out of the way ! a

Our route is Munich, Salzburg, Prague, Berlin, Munster and Amsterdam. I have booked the hotel for a day early so we can drop the car off without any problems. In the cities, I intend to park the car and use public transport or taxis.
Thanks for all the help |
