Have you had suspension work done before? They have a tendancy to creek or click if re-used OR not torqued enough/correctly.
Check out this thread here: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1618945&page=5 Edit: just realised you said groan, that could be your power steering; check fluid level? Last edited by M-SJ3; 05-12-2025 at 07:47 PM.. |

I’m having the same issue. I’ve changed the pinch bolt, wheel bearings, inner and outer tie rods and now I’ve been told it’s my steering rack. Keep me posted please!!

Could be mine failed, water got into the inner tire rod & rusted out the electrical motor. If can get the car up jacks or lift. Turn the wheels left to right and listen to the power motor.

Im gonna check the rack out. The bolts holding it are tight.
When I turn the wheel the strut seems to move ever so slightly. The bolts are tight. So that would leave the top hat being bad(bearing)? or the pinch bolts not holding despite being tight? kinda like the spring binds so maybe its missing a shim? |

Ok, i checked a bunch. It seems to be the factory rubber boot/ shim is gone or toasty and the coil is groaning metal on metal.
Anyone know what parts and what it takes to put fresh rubber pieces in it? |
