2018 F80 CF Roof "Peeling"

TLDR; Ideas for roof repair, peeling, reccs in PHX?

Well, I just graduated college (go badgers) and arrived back in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. Over the past 4 years I owned my dream car, my F80 M3, and drove it here - and in Madison - (two "dark" climates for carbon fiber - I know ). I will, however, add that while I had my fair share of "firsts" with the snow, the car was meticulously cared for and parked in a heated, underground garage. Sometimes - I feel like the car was warmer than I was in Madison, WI.

Over time, small bumps in the roof became bigger and seemed to almost "bubble" up. Finally, the bubbles would pop and expose what I am assuming is the epoxy beneath the clear coat. You can see what this looks like in the image below. My first thought was to cover the portion that was the worst with a carbon fiber wrap, as a temporary fix, until I got back home to Phoenix.

Well here I am! While everyone else in my shoes would be out partying until their post-grad plans begin - It's time to finally make this car look perfect again!

I have referenced this forum before for this issue and saw prices ranging from $1000-$6000. So, I decided to bite the bullet and take it into BMW to get a preliminary quote. They said "Well, it shouldn't be a problem - and it just needs to be re-cleared." Boom! Exactly what I thought...until they sent me to a repair shop associated with the dealer...

As my dad and I (brought for emotional support) loitered around in the sun, waiting for the serviceman to bring back the almighty quote, we take what we thought would be the last glance at the peeling roof. Ultimately, the man comes back and slaps a $10,000 repair quote consisting of an entire new roof (and a lot of labor).

Now, I seriously don't think that is necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions on repair methodologies, local shops, or ideas?

I am also debating getting into the CF roof reselling business, instead of finance, because there seems to be a lot of money in it lol.

Thank you all!

Find a different shop. It just needs the clear coat redone.

No. It’s going to need the gel coat replaced as well due to yellowing.

I've heard good things about 2M Autowerks in San Diego. If you can't find someone local it might be worth the trip.

Here's their site https://2mautowerks.com/service-pack...r-coat-repair/

This is the correct answer. These guys are local to me and they specialize in this repair. It comes out better than new. Call them maybe they can connect with a shop in PHX. If not come spend a few days out of the heat.

Appreciate it. Going to give them a call tomorrow. I could use a little beach time anyways.

The yellowing is in the gel coat of the CF roof. This is the correct method to repair the CF roof and eliminate the yellowing.

The CF roof needs to be protected from UV. Waxing and ceramic coating helps. I have a ‘09 e92 M3, a ‘12 e92 M3 and a ‘16 M4 and all of the CF roofs look just as good as the I took delivery of all three cars.

The epoxy resin can yellow and distort due to exposure to UV rays. To prevent this after your carbon roof restoration, I strongly suggest having a UV-protected Paint Protection Film (PPF) applied.
