IF I were you... I would have your diff fluid changed again. The whole purpose is to remove all the small metal bits from machining after 1,200 break in miles. It's not just a time/month thing. I would pay or change the diff fluid yourself. Changing the engine oil again is also not a bad idea. Dackel

Launch Control
I had my service done almost at 1,200 miles and could not get launch control to work after I picked it up. I even went back and showed them and though they did something wrong, but I found out launch control wont happen until 1246 miles, or 2,000km.

hey guys, sorry if this came up in the past... I put my new m4 to the dealership for them to fix some paint issues found at delivery but they did the 2,000km without telling me until I just picked up the car just now. The car only have 800km... is that ok? I am concerned that it hasn't fully breaking in yet.
Also, here's what the gave me in the invoice but I don't see any part for the screws... is that normal? (engine oil pan and differential) |

Maybe drive the car more and try to have your dealer change the diff oil again. It's worth a shot. IF not it's easy enough to change yourself. Btw... Launch Control won't work until your car has traveled 2K kms(or 1235 miles). That is IF you have DCT. ? Dackel

Thank god I'm military then. No taxes and can supply my own oil for half the price.

To all,
1200 mile fluid change. I am about to do a Euro Delivery on an 2020 M4, my first M. I have a X6 50i right now. My question is, when I drop off the car in Munich I should have about 1600 miles on the M? I really don't want to burn a day at the dealership in France. Can I just have it done in the US when I pick it up? Most of the miles will be highway, I am traveling with the owner of our company so no crazy speeds. I will track the M when I get back to the US. M4, YMB, 6MT, Exec, Cloth, Comp Pack. Thank You, KP Last edited by KennySRFElite; 03-16-2019 at 02:52 PM.. Reason: forgot year |

Somewhat silly question tangentially related to the run-in service: I took delivery of an MY19 M4 in January of 2019, The car was apparently born in September 2018, and I had the run-in service performed at 1200 miles in September 2019 (I have several other cars and don't run a lot of miles in the BMW).
Now that the car is a year old, it's calling for another oil change; apparently, the M4's computers want oil every year or 10k miles. I was under the impression that the run-in "didn't count" toward this oil change, despite it including an oil change with the rest of the service. My dealership's BMW Genius was initially under the impression that I should bring in the car for the one-year oil change; however, my SA says that it's not indicated, and I need to wait for 10k miles or 6 months past the one-year date. Here's the info I received: "What you're experiencing is actually just how things work on lower-mileage cars, and something that I didn't realize happens. When an M car comes in for its 1200-mile service, the regular oil change interval counter does not get reset in the car, but it does on BMW's back-end. This makes it such that we wouldn't be able to do an oil change and have it covered under the maintenance plan, but does mean that unfortunately you will just have to keep ignoring the car's warnings until you reach 10k miles or until next June comes around. [The SA] said in the past we have tried to work around this by manually re-programming the interval in the car, but doing that altered the car's entire service schedule, which shifted services required by time to happen too late and not line up properly to the car's birth month and odometer readings." Is this how the service intervals work? Am I to simply keep ignoring the oil change reminders/chimes until 10k? Thanks so much for any info! |

So my break-in service was a cluster.
I did European Delivery of a 2020 M4 and put 953 miles on it. I took redelivery in Atlanta where I bought the car and then drove home to North Carolina. As soon as I got home I scheduled the 1200 mile service but I had actually gone over and was sitting at 1400 miles. When I dropped it for service today they told me it had already been done. The Atlanta dealership didn’t do it but it was done at the VPC in Brunswick, GA. Why didn’t someone tell me that before? How was I supposed to know? Is it OK that it was done at 953 miles? As an aside, before I knew the service had been completed I asked about changing the manual transmission fluid at my expense. The service advisor said she had never heard of anyone doing that and wasn’t even sure if it was possible. So that doesn’t give me a lot of confidence in their service department. I was already soured on their sales department which is why I bought elsewhere. |
