Hopefully BMW is listening - and if you are listening BMW here's the message:

I have to admit, whatever forum members left posting in the G80 forum really hate the advertising campaign for the M performance parts as well. The juxtaposition with the F10 M5 add and E92 M3 M Performance parts ad just makes you feel sad for BMW's current state of...psychosis?

I am in no way a Subaru fan, in fact, I hate almost all their products, but even they know how to introduce a sports coupe properly.

And, similarly, this would be tempting if I could manage with only 2 seats:

I note that they didn't feel the need to plasti-dip the bottom half of the car to cover up the nostrils.

And, in contrast, here's one of the first 'driving reviews' of the G82 by "Super Car Blondie"

I think this speaks for itself:

You know I used to want a wrx sti, because if the performance, but hated the body and couldn’t even consider that M cars because of affordability. That thing was a pocket rocket in its day. Subaru never updated it but than went on to make under-powered, but driver focused cars. Cars are actually looking much better than the old wrx. BMW on the other hand is making ugly boats and their ads seem to be targeting street punks that would be the ones missing subarus, Toyota’s and Honda’s - not by making a car that they’d even actually like but making ads that make you think about that demographic.

"What’s funny is that BMW seems to have misinterpreted the reason for the backlash. People weren’t mad that BMW called them “Boomers”. People were mad that BMW had the cojones to actually tell its paying customers that their opinions on its new design were wrong. Also, literally no one is criticizing BMW for building an electric car. There’s no apprehension to join BMW on an electric journey. BMW is getting criticism for completely abandoning its core styling principles, principles the brand has followed for a century."

+1, and BMW is trying to guilt/shame/bully their customers into liking a cat-anus design as if BMW is the tastemaker.

BMW aren't the auto design tastemakers; we are.

Looks like they're starting to come to the realization they fucked this one up. It will be interesting to watch how they proceed with the damage control and working to win back the loyal fans.

They can start by unbanning all of us. You listening mods?

They can ban and minimize all they want; its not going away.
Note that this thread was moved from the main forum and the other one about “F8x values with release of new M3/M4” was also moved into the “vs” forum.

As I said, vote with your wallet, its a simple elegant way to send the message across.

Just spent the day with this Z8 being reminded of all the beautiful and great driver’s cars BMW use to make. Hard to believe the same company that makes the 4-series produced this gorgeous roadster.

WOW stein_325i ! Hope you had a great day with this beauty! What a perfect example of a Z8 with a classic looking GRILLE! Great to see that they are still fetching a high premium.
Well done Sir.

Yep, she is a beauty, everyone was looking at this car and taking pictures. Some knew what it was, others however were clueless but knew that it was something special. One man asked "Is this the new generation of the X3" (Yes, he did actually say this, no joke). As I tried to hold in my laughter, I told him it was a Z8, and he said, "so like a 2020 version of the Z3/4?" At least he thought this twenty year old car was brand new, even if he didn't know what it was. Just goes to show the timelessness of the design.

Owner plans on auctioning it next year, its a low mileage example so he hopes to get anywhere from $190k-200+

Only way BMW can come to any realization is if the G M/4 series generation cars sales falls flat on its face while getting spanked by Tesla in the EV section because they don't get it.

Btw, look at the iX at a certain front sideish angle, the iX is literally the i3. Just blown up in size. Then the dummy of a designer slapped on his ugly ass beaver front end to make it uglier.

This was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the iX, to the point that I was surprised no one else mentioned it.

Makes me think BMW is making the same mistake they made with the i3 plus ignoring lessons from other EV competitors, Tesla being the most obvious.

Yes, this thread ended up with a few G8x vs F8x posts, as always. But the thread is actually about a larger problem with the heavy handed response to critics of the new designs (plural) and the thinly veiled censorship that seems to be going on. That problem is exacerbated by some very poorly judged marketing and social media.

(oops, we accidentally deleted a bunch of posts when we moved the thread to "the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”)
For sure! I only found this thread again by going into my post history!

I prophesized that BMW was at a crossroads suffused with ideas for new markets in Asia and in the US and that as long as they remembered their motorsport and enthusiast roots, we'd be fine, and they'd be fine.

I said almost exactly this in my after sales survey when I got my M340i. Don't forget about the enthusiasts, their loyalty will sustain the brand during the most trying times. Sacrificing loyal customers to get a massive volume of transient purchases from a market which will always be seeking the next big thing is unsustainable.

The forthcoming M2 is the literal last hope of the damned. Beyond that, I will be diving into the past with my next BMW.
