I need to eyeball the data between the 2 sessions in sport and 2 in efficient, but I think efficient is the way to go. Initially I felt slower because I was having to correct my behavior and feed more throttle to get the same effect. However, once I got accustomed to that, I was able to better modulate the throttle in corners and start rolling into the throttle sooner. This yielded several spins as I found new limits, but the last 2 sessions had very little traffic so I was got several(20+) laps in and got to play in the two corners that I really notice a difference rolling into the throttle.

I also practiced the corner prior to the long straight. Went from braking lightly to bleed ~10 mph, to lifting ~3 car lengths out, coming in what felt a little hot, but with the new throttle I was able to roll into the throttle earlier and harder. First time I tried it I went from a +0.1s to -0.5s on the Solo2 after a few hundred feet down the straight out of T3. I was gobsmacked. I'm having to relearn a lot of behaviors going from a ~2200lb Miata to a 3500lb M4.

One of the spins quickly educated me that I'm rapidly approaching my current skill levels in wrangling this car. In the GTS section I've got a thread going, and I've been slowly coming to the conclusion that 1) I needed an intermediate car between the Miata and M4 2) I miss wheel to wheel racing. So, M235ir clone time! Friday really hammered that point home for me. I was chasing a GTS3 E46, and while I could pull him on the straights, and keep up on some of the slower corners, one long high speed sweeper the dude just walked me.

I'm going to keep the M4 configured for the track, and I have one more session planned later this month, but I think this winter and for most of 2021 I'll focus on a GTS3 M235i build. Dropping some weight and dropping a TON of applied torque will give me a platform to get more accustomed to these speeds. Plus, if I ball up a M235i, I won't lose much sleep. I'd be quite annoyed with myself if I ball up my M4.

Anywho, give throttle in efficient a shot. I wish I could load a custom throttle mapping for this car, I think I want something that blends efficient and sport, but sport was definitely getting me into trouble at times when I'd accidentally call for more torque than I needed.
I found that efficient is pretty laggy unless you time the throttle timing just right. Sport throttle seems to be just right as it prevents the massive torque spike in the low RPMs. I suppose if you really get the momentum right, then efficient throttle should be okay as your won't have to worry about the on throttle wiggle/spin. Ultimately, its because the stability control in our cars is shit. I would prefer not to have any stability control until I apply a full steering wheel worth of counter steer, if that doesn't cure the issue, I wouldn't mind the computer giving me some help.

Makes mine look so bad. I didn't pay attention to temperature and my front inner sides wore quickly. I flipped front tires twice. I ran 42 hot both front and rear and they drove great though. Rears look great at least 3-40% left.

Just ordered new BFG-R1s (275 front 285 rear) today. I guess I will need a pyrometer too!
What camber are you running up front?

I also tried sport over sport+ throttle during last track day. Auto rev-match (6MT) was super cool to use and helped shaving 2 sec off on the first half of the track! But comparing videos showed I seem to be carrying more speed with sport+ throttle. Top speed at straight doesn't have difference, but under WOT while weight is loaded there seems to be difference. I also felt hesitation in boost at times. Would need more samples to confirm but I personally feel like my driving style benefits more from sport+. I wouldn't even bother trying efficient throttle at this point.

Magically found a hole in my calendar so booked a track day for next week!

This time, I've ordered track brake pads pretty early on but again, I could not get what I wanted which is Ferodo DS1.11 all around so had to settle for DS1.11 on the front and DS2500 rear; not ideal, I know, but still better than OEM. Can never catch a break. However, I'm promised they're gonna arrive just in time.

LOL weird how that sounds like every T2 day I’ve tried. Our 997.2 C2S was actually rear ended at a T2 day. I can’t believe I actually went back after that, shame on me.

What happens in this scenario? Other driver's insurance covers it or do they just not want to involve insurance?

That's awful! Sorry to hear that!

It seems that they have more 'race' element as 'fun' in the expense of lesser safety enforced. More 'enjoy your freedom and you are on your own responsibility' type culture. And they draw audience who like it I guess; their registration is pretty full for every day in spite of pretty high track fee! Or perhaps they have more people who go toward racing. In real race, who cares about contacts. It seems that they do co-cost test and tune track day with lucky dog racing league. The danger is it may promote some people who don't have that skill yet to be pushed over the edge.

HPDEs are generally "no-fault" - everyone accepts liability for their own car, the waiver everyone signs has language to that effect and includes other "incidentals". For example, if you take out armco barriers or tire walls, you're also on the hook for that, and potentially even track cleanup if you dump oil all over the place. Also note your "regular" auto insurance doesn't cover track use or any of the incidentals listed. These are among many reasons why track insurance policies are so important. It's an expensive hobby, no doubt. Running without track insurance is all about how much financial risk you are comfortable taking.

Basically, if someone rear-ends me, I just pay for my car, they pay for theirs?

I was going to say the same thing -- no one's insurance covers anything.

It's a 'gentleman's sport' because everyone pays for their own stuff regardless of who initiated the accident.

Yep, thus the point by. If you have a supper aggressive asshole behind you, let the ass by with a point.
Most clubs try and control super aggressive driving, but it is really easy to come up on some slow traffic in a corner and collect another car that is caught in the mix.
I came up on a train at COTA last fall, must have been 8-10 cars slamming into turn 11 at the same time. I felt the shit got too real, I wasn’t the only one, most of the cars in front of me were done with the session.

I feel good at braking at near 90%-100% on a clear track into a corner, with traffic in front of me you really have to expect the unexpected.

When I come up on a train decelerating from 130-40mph for a turn, I just position myself halfway on the track, going offline. And keep my escape options open.

No way will I follow 5 other cars into a super heavy braking zone. You just don’t know when someone will experiment with a spin mid-pack, where you can’t clearly see what is happening.

But then things can get interesting on corner exit as well.

Stadium Super Trucks is one of my guilty Youtube treats. I think after watching the Bathurst 12 hour in 2018, Youtube thought "clearly you like Australian motorsports, have some super trucks" and I was sold. Would love to see them live at some point.

Watched them at Long Beach GP and they are a blast! It's like how 10 year old me would design a course with the ramps!

I abuse brakes, if I had stock front calipers, I would have to change Pads every other track day. But there is something satisfying about having a GT3RS get away from you on a straight away and then late break your way through a couple corners and right back on him

Speaking of which, I need to sell the DSUNO Fronts I bought from you - never used them....
