Window Etching
Has anyone else had to deal w/ a dealership that wants to charge for security VIN etching?
They're charging me $199 for it and I'm not sure I want to pay this. I'm already at $500 invoice but this puts me to $699 over invoice instead. Should I tell them to not etch it and not charge me the $199? This is for a financed vehicle. Financed through BMWFS. |

There's VIN numbers located throughout the car already. If you had to validate the VIN using an etched window after it's stolen, I wouldn't want that car back.

What's the purpose of this? Maybe just get a sharp knife and etch it yourself somewhere in the engine bay
Edit: Just wiki it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/VIN_etching |

I asked him to remove it from the charge list as I don't want it done.
If he doesn't I may literally cancel my order since I still have until June (I'm doing a pull ahead at the moment). It would kind of bother me that I had to shell out $199 for some bogus service. Edit: He said he'll remove it NP. Last edited by aerostar; 11-28-2017 at 06:59 PM.. |
