Window Etching

Has anyone else had to deal w/ a dealership that wants to charge for security VIN etching?

They're charging me $199 for it and I'm not sure I want to pay this.

I'm already at $500 invoice but this puts me to $699 over invoice instead.

Should I tell them to not etch it and not charge me the $199?

This is for a financed vehicle. Financed through BMWFS.

Tell them you're not interested. They can't make you accept that service.

There's VIN numbers located throughout the car already. If you had to validate the VIN using an etched window after it's stolen, I wouldn't want that car back.

What's the purpose of this? Maybe just get a sharp knife and etch it yourself somewhere in the engine bay

I asked him to remove it from the charge list as I don't want it done.

If he doesn't I may literally cancel my order since I still have until June (I'm doing a pull ahead at the moment).

It would kind of bother me that I had to shell out $199 for some bogus service.
