NH/MA - Any 6MT Owners Want to Trade a Drive?
I’ve been trying to pinpoint a drivability issue with my M3 for several months.
Each time, dealer takes it out and drives it (won’t let me ride along due to covid) after I explain what’s going on, comes back and tells me they don’t see the problem. It’s probably because all I can really say is “it doesn’t drive like it used to” and they won’t let me on the drive. Thought about test driving 1 or 2 at a random dealer to see if I can pinpoint in words WHY mine feels wrong but due to me test driving close to 50 F80s in the year or so I was shopping for mine most every dealer already knows I have one and won’t let me take one out. Anyone in New England with a 6MT (really anywhere in the MA/NH area) want to get together and swap drives? Pic attached of the troublemaker: |

You can drive mine if you want. I remember reading about this a while back, but I can't remember the issue?

The shifts are just atrocious now. They replaced the trans for a separate issue but this was happening before and after that. I can’t get a smooth shift 1-2 or any other gear (I can’t pinpoint why though) but 1-2 is worst and I know it’s not me because I’ve got 3 other manual BMWs with much higher miles that I can drive back to back that aren’t the same at all. Dealer always comes back and says they feel it but they think it’s user error more or less but it’s because they don’t own&drive one and know how it should drive. Maybe it’s the grab point maybe it’s something in the driveline but I won’t know without driving another one.
Cool I’ll PM you!! Issue is above. |

Maybe you could try to remove the clutch delay valve
The e92 m3 clutch slave have no clutch delay valve inside and the parts fit perfectly on the f80 m3 |

This could be the trick. The OEM slave cylinder can be easily modified (and returned to stock) to remove the washer inside which effectively reduces the fluid movement. I be this is what the issue is. I believe the effects of this mod are most noticeable in the 1-2 shift.
