Loud Humming Noise

Hi guys,

so I noticed today on my way to work my car making an loud humming noise while sitting at a red light.. it is only noticeable while idling or at very low speeds. When I got to work I popped my hood to see if I could pinpoint where it was coming from. I noticed there was also some smoke or steam coming from the driver sides front corner of the car.. not really sure what's going on.. anybody have any thoughts?

What does the smoke smell like? Water or oil? Regardless, if you're under warranty I'd get that to the dealership ASAP.

Sorry, haha!

Too bad about the warranty. Try releasing the oil cap slowly, remove it, put it back on, to equalize the pressure, I've heard people on the forum complaining about over pressure causing some sounds.

Also, can't hurt to hook up an OBD2 adapter and read codes.

I'll give it a try! Do you know what the part is that's making the humming? Seems to be a pump of some sort.. I'm gonna scan it tomorrow when I get home from work!

Something is groaning. I wanna say power steering but, that cant be, the car has electric power steering. I doubt it will show up on a scan. But, wont hurt. You should definitely have it checked out.

Update, got the car looked at and fixed today. It was my oil filter. Apparently it had been crushed/sucked in because it was old. Full oil change and new filter and it's good as gold

Thanks for the update. How old was the oil / filter ? Any pics of the crushed/sucked in filter? I think the oil filters on these cars are too small.

Unfortunately I didn't get any pics of the filter. There was only about 7k miles on the oil. My mechanic suggested I bring the car in every 5k for an oil change.
