Windshield mount for iPhone track video with RaceChrono?

Hey all, so I'm looking for a good setup to have my iPhone forward-facing in horizontal mode to capture video on the track using RaceChrono. I'm looking for a mount setup that will accomplish this. Thus, need to have the forward-facing camera lens not blocked, and at same time have a relatively unobstructed view of the screen for purposes of controlling the software, realtime lap data, etc.

For example, saw this on Amazon which attaches to the rearview mirror and seems like a decent option assuming it has enough depth to accommodate the thickness of the F80 mirror and is secure:

Anyone have a different proven setup for this?

I don't really want to go the GoPro route at this point as I don't feel like doing all the work of syncing all the data afterwards. The intrinsic iPhone-to-RaceChrono video feed is good enough for me at this time and I prefer to minimize # of gadgets.

Thanks!

How’s the gps refresh rate without a dedicated gps module? I thought that was a key limitation of using iPhone only

My $0.02 get an aim solo 2 dl and just sync it up with GoPro vids. It’s a pain but data is so key

Thanks, I actually do have a Dual XGPS that I use with the iPhone. Along with the OBD this combo provided a very usable platform for self-review with just the iPhone alone last season. But I had a weird windshield mount that was very awkward.

I just ordered this combo from Amazon, hoping this will be the ticket (going to use with an old iPhone 5 that I had laying around, which does NOT have the image stabilization jitter issue that the newer ones have):

That should work well. I use a suction type mount for the rear facing camera in my track car, and do a roll cage tubing mount for the front facing

I'm still having problems consistently connecting my GoPro, Dual XGPS, and OBD at the same time to RaceChrono. I can do two of them at a time, but not all three consistently. This is on an iphone X and it's really frustrating. Are you not running into this issue?

So far I haven't had an issue with keeping the GPS and OBD (OBDLink MX+) connected simultaneously. But again, I'm not using a GoPro, just the native iPhone video.

In RaceChrono settings, do you have all the internal options for the various components turned off? If not, maybe that could be the issue. Also, all your peripheral firmwares up to date?

Yes, all internal components turned off, all three externals on.

Hmm, not sure.... I know RaceChrono was just updated, maybe that'll do the trick
Otherwise, have you tried the setup with just GPS and OBD connected (no GoPro) and the problem still occurs with either of those two?

I use this Scosche MAGWSM2 Magicmount... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R2K4LCY...p_mob_ap_share and it works well. After a while, a dirty phone case (greasy hands, etc) will make the phone case slide a bit on the magnetic rubber mount, so I use an alcohol wipe (found at your doctors office) to clean the back of the phone's case and the rubber mating surface. The suction cup to the windshield is very strong.
