Arrow BMW M Carbon Ceramic Brakes (CCB) - service PDF

Hi Guys,

Over in the M2 forum we've been having a debate on the pro's and con's of CCB's. I mentioned that besides the visible CCB wear indicators you also must disassemble and weigh the ceramic rotors - for wear. Its not necessary to do that now - although there is a min ccb weight loss of 100 gram per rotor. Here are some interesting pdf's on checking for wear on CCB brakes. Its nice to have friend's at BMW AG.

I don't suppose you'd know unless you've driven a similar F80 with steel rotors, but can you not feel the reduced unsprung weight?

They really should have painted the CCB calipers green, because that's what you need to buy them!

I wouldn't even want to think about how much it costs to service/replace them...

Heh, I wish it was $5k in parts. You're at least 3 fold off.

I love the way they look, but so far I regret the purchase because of this issue.

To be honest, I would rather have a 6 piston Brembo BBK than this CCB

The functionality at this point only pays off if you are constantly tracking the car, but then again a Brembo or similar BBK will do the job as well without the heavy costs!

How limited is it, how many track days have you gotten out of them?

Reduced unsprung weight is worth its weight in gold, no pun I would not be able to go back to steels now. Very nimble. The wheel fitment issue is a non issue I feel.

If you are good enough to blow through the CCB's on track days then you will have a sponsor

That's why there will be a 20" wheel option for 2016
