This is the biggest misconception out there. It's not to say don't take care of your car, but many will "take good care" of their car by staying on top of maintenance being as anal as possible and still have a ticking time-bomb at 60K+ miles.

You can take as much care of the car as you want. Still wont save the "6 computers in the intake tract" or "rear sunshades, parking cameras, sensors, dct" as mentioned above.
On my way to 80k no warranty, no mods, no problems ... rollin.

These cars are so much more involved then they were 5-10 years ago, I was listening to a podcast with Steve Dinan talking about the 6 computers in the intake tract and multiple sensors in the MAF. Then you consider the rear sunshades, parking cameras, sensors, dct, just to name a few things that can go wrong and cause serious $$
Agree 100%. Lots of little things will break in these cars after the warranty period, and they will be EXPENSIVE. I would not want to deal with that. I don't think I'd want to have any modern high-performance car as a daily driver once it was out of warranty
While this is valid opinion/position, you will pay to have the car always under warranty. Let's do some calculations based on 9 years ownership of a $75k BMW car with 90k miles vs 3 lease terms of a 75k car at 10kmi/year.

While with lease you will not have much maintenance cost and no repair costs at all, 3 lease terms will cost you about $100k. The buy option will cost you about $80k + maintenance and repairs for after the warranty work. Now, do you think you will spend $20k on maintaining and fixing the car? I don't think so. Additionally after you sell you car, let's assume you will $10k for 9 year old 90kmi BMW, you will have total for $30k vs lease.
Thus my question is, would you own a car out of warranty despite expensive repairs?

I think it depends on how you drive. Highway? I can imagine these cars hitting 150k miles easily without anything major failing. Parking sensors and other driver aids, etc you don't need to fix.

Imagine if odometers started at some arbitrary/calculated number and counted down to zero, and then your car "expired". Nightmare vision-flash of a car-as-a-service future.

Glad to see in this and various other posts how solid the F8x is.
