I don't think my revmatch function (6MT) is working properly
Short version: I don't think my revmatch function is working properly. BMW regional tech says it is. If you own a manual F8x with no mods (BM3 etc) I'd like your input on how it works for you.
Longer version: 2016 F83 manual, bought CPO in March with 14k on the clock. Car rev matches in all three driving modes, instead of only in Efficient or Sport. The only time I can get it to not revmatch is if I press the Sport+ button immediately after starting the car and only after it's been sitting for 20+minutes. But when I do this it doesn't rev match in ANY mode. I've been to my dealer three times on this. They've loaded new software (no change) and called in the regional (Northern NJ) tech who apparently drove another F8X on the lot and said mine is working as it should. My understanding is that the car is supposed to rev match in Efficient and Sport, and by simply pressing the Sport + button (at any time) the car then doesn't rev match. I found an entry from dealerspeed thanks to a post (pic attached) from one of you a while back that seems to confirm my understanding There are multiple threads on this topic, and there a few reports of people with the same issue, a couple of whom I've been in touch with by PM, and they too have had no resolution. I'm starting a new thread simply to get a survey that will enable me to either stand down, or take it it up with BMW Customer Relations. So: does your non-modded F8X manual: A) rev match in Efficient and Sport and NOT rev match by simply pushing the Sport+ button? B) rev match in ALL modes unless you cycle the car for 20 mins and press the Sport + immediately after starting the car, after which it doesn't Rev match in ANY mode? C) Behave a different way? (Describe) To be clear, I think it's supposed to work like "A". But for me it's working like "B". Thanks in advance! |

Rev match in everything but Sport + for me, hence why I always leave the car in Sport +. Will not buy a car where I can't turn it off, I hate it.

Very late-production cars have rev-matching enabled unless traction control is disabled, but it's interesting that your 2016 had the update applied.

2018 here, rev March in efficient and sport but no rev match in sport+.
I believe there is coding or something else available to make it rev match in sport+, or no rev match in all three. You can probably try to look through one of the coding threads... vaguely remember reading something on this. |

Thanks for all your input so far folks. It's so far proving my theory but several prior threads on this topic, which include posts from a few BMW techs indicate that there are a number of cars that rev match in all modes.
Question: one tech (Downeast1) in one of these threads said he was able to "cycle the key, while driving" to get a non rev match mode to rev match temporarily. I'd like to try that but don't know what "cycling the key" means. Can anyone enlighten me? |

Double-clutching to rev match on downshifts? What is this, 1930? Whoever posted that was clearly raised on autotragic transmissions.
OP is it possible that a previous owner did some coding to get this behavior? You might find other differences from stock. |

Your car has new software which enables rev matching it all modes. I believe 2018+ cars had that but If the software was upgraded then that explains it.
Get bootmod3 and you’ll be able to select in which mode to enable or disable rev matching |

actually that's a good point. How can OP be sure the CPO car was not flashed to the rev match tweaked?

As for prior owner: The prior owner (don't know him/her) leased the car from the same dealer that I bought the car from (my BMW dealer in town). He/she had it serviced there too. I am the second owner and have all of the service history. The only service entry that could possibly have an effect is a software update to cure a "trunk latch" issue in which the trunk wouldn't stay shut on occasion. I noticed that the update date was July 2017, which happens to coincide with the date range quoted by several people on the other rev-match threads that suggested BMW made a change to the rev-match feature around that time. However, even if the "trunk latch" software update somehow meant my car got the new rev-match software, it doesn't explain why I can't turn off rev-match with traction control off (which is apparently how others with the newer logic are able to turn off rev-match). |

2020 here...rev-match works in all modes at any time. I haven't messed with MDM/DSC at all however.
Definitely sounds like a software issue if you have to wait 20 mins at idle for rev-match to turn off in Sport+??...and then not rev-match in any mode afterwards?

Thanks, I should have been clearer. The 20 mins is not at idle, it's that the car has to have been off and locked for 20 mins, then once I start it up, to get rev match off I have to press "Sport +" before getting underway. If I do that, then it doesn't rev match in any mode. If I fail to press the "Sport +" button before getting underway, it rev matches in all modes. Very strange.
