Software upgrade issues when using aftermarket amplifier

Hi all

Anyone heard of issues with software upgrades from BMW after swapping out the HK amp for something aftermarket?

From what I understand, it's because various modules in the car are inter-connected, one of which is the HK amp. Without it the process can't be completed because the Control Area Network or CAN BUS, which facilitates communication between various components in the car, resides in the HK amp.

The proposed solution seems to be to reattach the original HK amp every time the car goes into the dealership. Not ideal, so just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and whether there is a better solution?
