White Line Road Paint Got Splashed on to Xpel & Inner Wheel Shield
Hey Guys,
I was driving along the other day and didn't realize there was some apparently wet white road line paint on the road, and a little splashed up into the side of the car and inner mud guard/wheel shield area (see picture). The side/blue area of the paint also has Xpel on it shielding the blue paint. When I wet the area for a few minutes I was able to scratch off small areas with my fingernail without damaging the Xpel at all, but that would take a century to do. Does anyone have another method that might work in terms of soaking the paint and lightly scraping it off without damaging the Xpel or black plastic inner wheel guard? Thanks! |

i find it crazy that they paint the roads and leave fresh paint with no warning. i know 99% of public doesnt care; but imagine getting that on your 1 off paint job. i guess your PPF paid off majorly. cant imagine removing paint from paint lol

I would try some all purpose cleaner. That should loosen it up. Then should could gently wipe it off. It kindof depends on how long it's on there though.
You could also try calling Xpel to see what they recommend. Their support is actually pretty good. They know what solvents are safe on their product.

HIT THE CITY UP FOR THE REPAIR BILL...Road paint is their responsibility since you pay taxes to drive on them
Might be a long fight, but worth it if you win, or they agree |

Unavoidably, (another car almost hit her) this happened to my wife's X5M this past summer. And she is vigilant bc I always remind her to watch for freshly painted lines. Anyway, I just used a clay bar to remove it, but my car isn't PPF

Man that's awful. I'd seek compensation for whatever work is done to correct that honestly. Some cities if you hit a pothole and dent a wheel will compensate you for replacement or the repair of a wheel, I'd say given that they should be able to refund you for having a professional detailer fiddle with that. Best of luck, not sure what would be best on PPF in this case.

Had this happen early this summer on my car which is full ppf'ed and ceramic coated. I used a bug sponge and all purpose cleaner it did the trick but took a while to remove.

Mineral spirits - let it soak for a few minutes then remove with a pressure washer. That will get 90% of it off. Then remove the rest by hand. No risk to the paint because of the PPF and plastic of the fender wells.

Had this happen on my suntek ultra. Suntek recommended laquer thinner. Came right off amd self healing properties seem no different. Suntek events lists it in their website as safe to use as worst case scenario

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Haven't been on here but did research that laquer thinner could do it, so $8 later with no noticeable damage to the Xpel.
