Stock brakes - quick pad swap windows or openings?

Does anyone know if the stock brake calipers have the quick pad swap windows/openings? This allows you to swap pads by removing a pin, bracket, or bridge(Stoptech) on the backside of the caliper, and doesn't require the removal of the caliper itself. I used to have these on the brembos that came on my Porsche and they made pad swaps before and after track days a breeze.

(For the CCB's this is currently under discussion in the 'Steel Rotors for CCB?' thread.)

Any info is appreciated!

Based on the below it definitely looks like quick pad swap windows front/rear. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes. You can swap your pads in about 30 - 40 minutes including jacking the car once you get good at it.

How about pushing the pistons back in?

Is it relatively easy to do with calipers still in place?

For the pistons I still got the Lisle 29100 Quick Quad Pad Spreader from when I had the stoptechs on my E92. No need to remove anything, I just hope it fits the opening.

I use the pad itself to push the pistons back in... the weights on the top of the pad make it easy and I found with careful force it is pretty easy. When I took the track pads out (without the weight on them), I used a flat head screw driver in a cloth between the pad and rotor to very carefully push the piston back. Both worked well.

Awesome, thanks for confirming! BMW really got it right this time around!

I am still curious how many track guys will end up going for a BBK, time will tell I guess.

x2. The old pad works fine for pressing the pistons back in.

I've changed my pads at least a half a dozen times already and the pad change really only takes a few minutes per corner. Actually takes longer to put the car on stands and take wheels off than the pad change.

Anyone taken the calipers off yet for a rotor change or resurfacing? It looks like it should be pretty easy, same as Brembo?

Just the slow ones: the ones that use the brakes too much

To be honest, I don't see much reason unless you are tracking an excessive (i.e. 30+ days a year). The stock system... with track pads... is very capable and all the brakes the vast majority of track rats will need IMO.

Just a hint to those talking about pushing the pistons back. Remember to open the lid on the brake fluid reservoir (or alternatively attach a bleeder hose and crack the bleeder screw). When you are pushing the pistons back the fluid has to go somewhere, and it is much easier with the lid open.

I had been doing it the more manual way but for ~$50 this is worth it, thanks for the tip!

This is great to know, thanks! My BBK budget is now my suspension budget!
