****update*****

Dealership just called me. They told me that my rear diff needs to be taken apart. They said they are sure if this is related to the drive shaft recall. Meaning, one problem lead to another. Was told that it will likely be a week or more before they figure things out with the recall. I'll be in the loaner for a while longer.

On a side note, I wonder, since they said the rear diff had no oil in it, if that is the whine I have been hearing under 5 MPH the last 2 days. Also, lately when I was putting the car in reverse it hasn't always engaged. They think the diff is related to that. I'll share more as I learn more.

They told me I wasn't putting my foot on the brake and I had a video of the car engaging reverse with my foot off the brake and they ignored me.

It happens about once a week. Car is in gear and it doesn't move. It happens 3/4 times in reverse though. It's funny that's the first thing I said to the SA. Look, I know how to drive this thing. My foot is on the brake. I know for a fact this is happening. We shall see...

My car is solely under the supervision of Gabe paredes at bmw corporate and he finds every excuse to shut me down. I have videos and pictures and they don't even look at them they don't care.

They now charge me $200 to diagnose my car and it's under warranty it's disgusting.

The diff being “taken apart” should be limited to the 2-1/8” nut that needs to be replaced because it’s installed with Loctite. It’s a very minor disassembly and is done on every diff where the driveshaft is disconnected.

Just for the record, BMW has indeed issued a recall of the driveshaft for approx. 2,677 M3 & M4 vehicles in the US with production dates ranging from Mar 2, 2016 – Sep 30, 2016.
