Collision and Pedestrian Warning Malfunction
Has this ever happened to anyone? My car is less than 2 weeks old and I'm not sure what is causing this malfunction or if I'm doing something wrong. This warning has happened 2x but goes away. No mods have been done to my front bumper yet.

The system is telling you that it is inactive and that usually would be from an issue with the sensor.
If there is not a way to calibrate or reboot this system... then a trip to the dealer is probably in order. |

Thanks for the input! The funny thing is everything seems to be fine on the next restart 30mins later. This is the 2nd time this happened. Do you know if the sensor is the same for both faults?

Pretty sure the only sensor is the camera in front of your rear view mirror. Check to make sure it's not blocked with bug goo or other debris.

Not sure if it's a related issue, but my collision warning seems to go off at completely random times as well. It may know I'm an Asian female and be acting preemptively, but other than that I can't figure out why...

I had a similar frontal collision warning in July when the camera had bug splatter all over it. Cleaned the area and the warning was gone.
Bugs were bad..... |

I believe they go off when direct sunlight hits the sensor essentially blinding it. Mine went off once and it was in so sunny I could barely see out my windshield.

I've seen it discussed here before and that's when mine went off. Did you search the forum for same issue?

I got this warning just after I had hardwired my V1. It seems that in my M4, that's got every option except the CCB's, there were TWO Black+Brown wires located near the rearview mirror cluster. One Black+Brown wire was apparently the ignition GROUND wire that was connected to the front camera, and another Black+Brown wire that is the ignition GROUND for the mirror compass.
When I tapped the Black+Brown wire that was part of the front camera, for my V1 GROUND, I got the errors "Collision Warning system malfunction/inactive". As soon as I changed the V1 GROUND to the Black+Brown wire for the mirror compass all problems went away. I understand that the problem you describe is intermittent, AND you have not performed any mods to your car; however, just wanted to share this experience in case anyone else has faced this problem (READ: Just trying to help my fellow BMW buddies...). OP, I see a lot of good troubleshooting suggestions here thus far. Try them out. If none of them work and you haven't tinkered with the area around the rearview mirror/front camera, my suggestion is that you take it back to the dealer for them to troubleshoot. Good Luck, -Tony

Update: So I spoke to the BMW service center. They said they've never heard of this issue before... But said for now to keep an eye on it since it goes away and take note of conditions when it comes on... They suggest it will be checked on my first oil change to save a trip since im almost there any way.
I will report back again with another update once i get my first service 500mi from now. |
