Warranty Options

Hi, I have a 2017 BMW M3 with 55k miles, so too late for a standard extended warranty.

One dealer offered 8 months (based on service date) of CPO @2200, or a wholly aftermarket 3y/36k warranty with a 200 deductible for ~4900.
Another one offered 8 months of CPO for 3000, but also offered +24 months of a CPO warranty at 3000/ea, so 9000 total for 32 months CPO (all unlimited mileage). To offset the cost of the warranty, he’s offering sub-2% financing.

I’m still shopping got more quotes, but looking for feedback on these numbers, and what kind of warranty is appropriate? The real concern, of course, is crank hub / charge cooler / rod bearings / manual clutch replacement. eg should I quit pursuing CPO and just buy the car out through BMWFS directly, and then shop for an aftermarket warranty?

Thanks!

At some point you have to ask, how much is that warranty worth.
Or, can I just pay for the repairs my self.

I have never been an extended warranty guy.
Truthfully I can’t believe I have two cars under warranty but they are tuned.

It was great when I took the M2 in for my free oil change, the 1/2 cage caught some attention.

I'd just make monthly deposits into a savings account for any potential repairs, maintenance. So far, its worked out pretty well.

$4900 for 3 years definitely not worth it. My opinion.

It makes sense to self finance the insurance if you are going to pay cash for the extended warranty. If you don't have the cash to pay for the warranty and have to finance it you might be better off financing it. The other alternative is that if you have good credit and something happens you can get a 0% credit card for 12-18 months and pay off a repair that way.

To me if you have the cash to pay the extended warranty it make more sense to put it into a savings account making .50% and like you said kick $100 a month into it to cover repairs. If you have an issue you have money to pay for it of not you have cash.

Depends on how long you plan to keep the car. No car is immune from repairs over the long term. Spent $2,500 on a 7-year extended warranty for my wife’s Audi and had more than $10K in claims. Glad I got the warranty.

Doesn’t have to be mechanical. Even something like an a/c problem is costly to fix in a German car.

$2500 for 7 years is way more reasonable than $4900 for 3 years like OP was offered. I probably would've taken the 7 years for $2500 as well tbh.

Warranty

If the car will be stock, the major issues that plague other M cars (bearings, actuators, SMG issues, etc) are non existent on this chassis. I would say the likelihood of having major repair is much lower on these cars... If you plan to tune the ECU, then you are better off spending that money on a crank hub Key as that is the major fault of the f80, and if you tune the warranty company wont pay for the repairs anyways most likely.
