I assume dealers are now paying less for cars , the cars are theoretically worth ~10% less, but asking price retail for used cars, especially nicer M modes seems unaffected

Should we assume that at some point we are going to see the asking and selling prices for used cars at dealerships drop to reflect the depressed market?!

Do you think that for higher end enthusiast cars like M2,M3,M4,M5, etc that we can expect to see a drop in price or are they going to be somewhat immune and still command higher prices?

Im shopping used M4 vs maybe leasing a new one - if the used car prices dropped considerably - buying. A lightly used 2017 or 2018 would be the best deal....

Any insights ??
Great questions.

I will say that wholesale pricing for M2,M3,M4 and M5 has not dropped much at all. Most other cars have seen around a 10% wholesale drop.

Wholesale inventory of M cars is low as well. Once you filter out those with prior paintwork, no accidents, and low miles, it's a very small number. Demand is still high. Dealers are bidding and paying above what they should (for the good ones).

These cars will depreciate naturally, but I would not expect to see any dramatic price drops.

This week , franchise dealers started buying again here on the west coast. They were MIA the last two months. They were paying more than I wanted to, but they can.
What's wholesale on a 2020 M5 comp?
Not enough have sold to get a true value. Just one actually. $97K with 800 miles.

Shit to them
How much are you trying to get them to budge? I picked up a CS in LA a few weeks ago for 20.4% off sticker before incentives. It can be done.
Teach me your ways. I live in LA and would love a CS at 20 off of MSRP!

My wife's 320i lease is up in December and she wants an M4 Vert. I don't think any supply will be left by then so we're considering just ending the lease early. I think we're eligible for at least a few months of payments on pull ahead now, so cash outlay would be minimal and make sense (especially since we're a few hundred miles over the lease now).

Are there any deals to be had with current supply similar to what we're seeing with the CS? I.e., 15% off MSRP etc. Full leather, DCT are a must, but she prefers fully loaded.

It sounds like we're still a year away from the new G83 M4. I'll happily wait if not (and just DD my Spyder for a while) -- would only do something if the deal was pretty crazy. I.e., $700's tax inclusive with minimal cash outlay.

The 2 month waiver ended in May unfortunatley.
Supply for M4 all variants are really low so dealers aren't interested in giving them away this month.

What's possible on one? Not sure where the deals sit at all. Once you start approaching the $1k/month it makes more sense to pick up a 911 instead as the overall cost of ownership will be lower, but of course wife prefers to lease a BMW I guess I may have to look at swapalease instead.

You're going to be paying significantly more than $1k/month on a new 911 unless you're putting a lot down.

Not a new 911. 911's lease terribly. Would never consider it. Only a low mileage base 911.2 C2 ('17-'18). I would consider CPO M4's (convertible) as well assuming they have been well cared for... my experience has been the CPO Porsche's generally have far less miles and have been kept in better condition since they frequently don't get used as DD's. But yeah, will come down to numbers overall and wife prefers the BMW so we're leaning that way.

We really like the flexibility of leasing with BMW. I have had such great experiences over the years getting in and out of leases. Can't say the same thing for other manufacturers.

hey can you get me a 911 for $1k per month, minimum cash outlay?
You might need to do a little bit more research (in general)

Hit up BMW Chandler. For what it's worth, I could have closed on a M4 CS for around $750 (pretax) with like $2k out of pocket and I passed (regret that)

I never said a new 911. Thought it was implied given the obvious fact a no money down lease would be at least 60% more than that with tax and signature implies this isn't my first rodeo. Smh

When is it a good time to get into a X3M or even a F90 M5?

How low do you think payment can go with the current situation with the world?

Dealerships are short on cars, don't except any major discounts.

I don't remember - this was back in September.

I should rephrase that I didn't necessarily pass - I waited a day or two too long and a buyer in CA purchased the car before me. You can view my post history, it should be one of the first posts I made in this forum if you want to PM the buyer and see exactly what he paid

I'll chime in on the AZ market as well. I've been getting cars from BMW NS for as long as they have been at that location. Was getting cars from them when they were down on Camelback before that. Basically, our average is one new car per year for over 20 years.

I echo the statement of going to BMW Chandler. I got my M3 CS from Chapman on Camelback because it had been on the lot for nearly 6 months. Easy transaction and they got me out of my X5 lease a year early. Crazy discount on the CS.

BMW NS just has too many customers willing to pay full retail on M cars.

F90 M5s are in short supply but the discount range is 5-11% depending on your dealer/region.

The X3M is a dog for BMW compared to the X3Mcomp. There are plenty of X3M you can get really aggressive pricing on, 10-12% all day.

What do you think about the M2 market? More specifically, the 2018 LCI's in DCT. I’ve seen them for the past few weeks and seem to barely be impacted by this pandemic. Most are low 40s to mid-high 40s, depending on miles and condition of course. Would love some more input on price forecasts for these cars.
