2018 M3 Lease Buyout (crazy market)

I know, this topic is beat to death.

I have a 2018 M3 SO, 6 speed Stripper with 13k miles. My lease ends in September. I have an offer from a dealer for $67k for it (which is just insane)

my RV is $43,300, with this market there is absolutely no way I'm negotiating my buyout lower. The 67k offer is so appealing but I just don't think I can let my car go. My plan was todo ED with the G80 but then they released the G80 I said NOPE. Along with BMW canceling ED I just don't see me upgrading until MAYBE BMW fixes the G80 in the LCI.

Obviously this market will correct so its really just me deciding if I want to potentially piss away 24k. But I do think I want to keep my M3 and finally start my "car collection" (Porsche GT4 is in my future)

If i buy it out, should I even involve my dealer or just let BMW FS handle the paperwork? I can pay cash for the buyout but I'm hoping to get a low interest loan so I don't have my cash tied up into a vehicle (rather keep it in the market)

Thanks!!

Once supply chains start to normalize here in the next 1-2 months, this bubble is going to pop.

$24k is a lot of coin - I think I would take the offer and run.

You’re looking at 6-12months for any normalization in supply chain, not to mention the weaker dollar will continue to see increase in new car prices which in turn will keep used car prices up.

This also doesn’t make up for the lack of inventory since start of 2021.

Exactly! Chip shortages will carryover to next year easily.

I don't think I'm 100% clear on what you're asking.

Are you asking, should I take the offer, sell my car and take the profit in cash? Sure, if you can go without your car. Hard to turn that kind of money down.

Are you thinking of rolling that profit into a different car like a GT4? That's a different story, because you're selling your car at the top of the market, but likely buying its replacement at the top too. Especially that GT4.

It does sound to me like you want to keep your car, though. If so, none of the above matters. I personally would cash out that kind of value retention on a mass produced, non special edition (no offense) vehicle, but I get it if you can't bear to part with your car

I was in a very similar situation - my 2018 M3 Comp 6MT fully loaded (minus CCBs), some M-Perf bits, and 13.5k miles was coming due in September of this year, RV $48k. I ended up buying it out just last week and had some offers of 60-65k from dealers, but just gonna end up keeping it. Sticker was $81k

If yours is truly a stripped down and you're getting offers of $67k - I'd take that and run. I was looking at somewhere of like a 10-12k "profit" - you're looking at double that - I'd take them up on it as that's just too good of a deal to pass up even if you absolutely love the thing.

OP, I see you're in Delco. Is it Otto that gave you the offer? I'm in the same boat with my lease ending in October. I haven't approach anyone yet but it's tempting. Only thing is a replacement car...

If I had another car in mind or lined up, I'd sell it.

Exactly the same scenario I mentioned above. I need two cars in my household and I'm thinking "Well i sell the M3 make a little bit.....but then what do I get?" With me loving the F80, the high cost of used cars at the moment, and not wanting a G80, I came up with nothing which was rare for me, because usually I get pretty stoked to get into something new.

I was on the same boat a few months ago. Bought out the lease in the end, deal of a century. The plan was to upgrade to the G80, but when I saw the new design, I decided to pass.

Looking at buying out my car as well. RV is $52k and there is nothing I can find in the price range that is really close for what you get for the money. Kinda glad the G80 turned out so ugly given the pricing situation. My wife has wanted an X5 but not paying sticker for one especially missing half its options.

Odyssey's are going above msrp right now. If you're fine living without a car then thats one thing but if you sell you'll still need to buy something that will also be inflated - at least something equivalent to the f80.

Does anyone know what 3rd party buyouts (trade at non bmw dealer) are vs individual buyouts? I have heard they can be $1000s more or about the same?

I just traded in my leased BMW at a third party, non BMW dealer, and there was no difference between my payoff and dealer buyout outside of sales tax.

I agree; however, I think it will take much longer than a few months.

For my 2019 BMW M2 Comp....my buyout was 39k, while the dealer buyout was approximately 36k.

Dealers don't pay tax. That is why your number is higher.

Sell it, pocket the $24k. Buy a beater to get you around until the prices normalize then get something you want.
