Despite the market…

I've been after an F80 even before I owned my previous E90. I honestly think they're the nicest looking cars on the road. With that being said, check out this 2018 with 13K miles on it. I'm going to check it out next week. Anything specific I need to ask for? It's a baby. Was a lease return sold to CarMax during Covid it seems.

Yo!

Other than the initial service was done at 2k, the car looks very clean. You may want to have an indy do a PPI, OR just buy one of the super cool extended warranties from Carmax. But it would behoove you to have it checked to make sure it hasn't been tuned, etc. But the engine pics are super clean and everything looks like it was not been touched.

Do you have a hold on it? The price is not listed, so figured you may have held the car to inspect it. I can only imagine the price, as I bet Carmax is very proud of this one...

Either way, good luck!

Yes Josh, I have it shipping up from Tampa now. Car was $68,995. I will be taking advantage of CarMax's MaxCare warranty for $1,800 and have coverage through '26 or 60k miles (I'll never reach that) even though I'm covered until mid '22 under factory warranty.

Is there a quick way to check via BimmerCode to tell if it's been tuned or not? Or better yet can I send BM3 the VIN to check?

Purchased my f80 from CarMax. They give you a 7 day grace period to return the vehicle if you're not completely satisfied with it. I would recommended setting up a PPI before you pick it up so you can take care of that in the 7 days.

That's the plan. My buddy is an advisor at our local CT BMW dealership. Advisors helping advisors.

Sound like you are doing it totally right! That is awesome.

And I bet this thing comes out super clean, and not tuned. I have a mineral-weiss metallic as well, and looove the color. I think the comp wheels look epic on MW. The interior looks prestine as well. I am not a big orange fan, but as a whole this car is an unreal build. Super loaded.

Looking forward to the review and pics when you buy it....

So the car arrived. I took a 24hr test drive courtesy of CarMax. A couple things to note I would like your input on before I pull the trigger.

-3 out of the 4 wheels were curb rash repaired by CarMax. Ughhh. Would've rather them left it alone honestly. My heart was in my throat when I finally laid eyes on the car and saw it.

-The car has the infamous "cold start ticking/knocking sound as seen here https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1645060 I left the car in my garage overnight and upon startup in the morning I heard it. Ticks after about a minute of running and then goes away once warmed up. I'm torn whether or not to let this deter me from buying the vehicle. I've read many many threads over the last 24 hours and some seem to think it's no big deal, others have been adamant about it and bmw has replaced anything from lifters, retorquing the exhaust cam, and even replacing the entire engine assembly.

I loved the car. Drove phenomenal. Put about 150 miles on it. Interior is mint. Tires and brakes good. Zero paintwork or modifications. Everything you'd expect from 13k mile lease return. The car is under factory warranty until 9/22 and I even thought about taking the extended CarMax warranty. But to be honest, if something like that we're to happen (engine replacement) I wouldn't even want the car anymore.

I really don't know what to do at this point. I've even looked around at other cars and nothing even close to this spec at this price. This spec was my EXACT match which was hard to believe. The exact way I would've built it from the factory.

I’m in a similar situation as well. Got a 18 M3 from CarMax that I’m close to pulling the trigger. I think I’m definitely going to get the warranty since $2k is super cheap compared to the BMW I’ve been seeing. Same price as you as well

If you decide to purchase the car, definitely buy the Carmax extended warranty. $1,800 is super cheap for the coverage you get. I paid about $2,600 for the same coverage through a 3rd party. It would be double that through BMW extended warranty.

You can check out this thread for reference.

Thanks guys, I spoke to a few other owners who have the same issue. Some went and fixed it, others did not. 20k miles later and same noise, no change. No difference. As a service advisor myself, I know with invasive repairs these cars just aren't the same anymore so I'm trying to convince myself it'll be fine, especially since I have the factory warranty as well as CarMax. Ugh, big decision.

My M3CS 'ticks' after sitting for days/cold start. Id say it's normal, never had a problem and I track it. I would say do the crank hub if its a long term keeper.

mineral white is beautiful.

did I read that correctly, $69k?

I'd keep it if it's exactly the way you would have ordered it. Than you got the carmax warranty on top. 🍰🍴

Congrats! Man, I was looking at the prices people were getting their 18 F80 (comp, exec, etc) for maybe a year ago and it was about $10k less lol. It just doesn’t feel right lol. I’m gonna hold out for a bit. Congrats again!

Congrats!

That is a beautiful car bro. Now I neeed to go snake my Dads comp wheels as those look incredible on MW...

As far as the tic. Not sure what to tell you, other than you have a full warranty for a about a year, plus the Carmax on top I assume. You could always take it to a BMW dealer and see if they are willing to chase the tic. Clearly you know this being an SA yourself, and only you will be able to decide if that is a battle worth fighting.

The good news is many have had this tic and never had any issues. I would put some hard miles on it and see how it goes. i find the harder I drive this car the more it settles into itself. I have read a bunch here about the issues that pop up due to lack of driving (Vanos, etc).

Although my car is pretty much a weekend car at this point, I still do my best to get the car out to stretch its legs. I really feel it makes a difference with these cars. I force my Dad to do the same with his uber low mileage M4C. He has less miles than your car does...haha.

Anyway, super stoked for you, and welcome to a great community. Make sure to keep us in the loop....

Thanks for the kind words Josh. I agree with you completely. Not even going to chase it at this point as the car is so original and mint.

However, here ARE some things I plan on doing to the car over the next few weeks.

-Genuine BMW oil change
-Genuine bmw black M plate frame
-Genuine BMW LED puddle projectors
-EBC CarPlay flash

Sounds like a cool couple of cars man. His and his! Something I dream of with me and my son.

Share some pics of yours and dads.

Came home from work tonight and couldn't wait to get to the garage and code the car as well as flash the apple CarPlay activation via Easy Bimmer Coding.

I also decided I would cold start it and maybe get a video of said "ticking noise". Needless to say it was quiet as a church mouse lol 🤷🏻*♂️ happy as a pig in shit tonight.

I've pondered the GTS flash. How much was it and what really do you gain? Euro MDM?
