M4 Damaged While Parked

Looks like someone backed into me and took off. Looks like a new fender and new front bumper. Driver side door making noise when opening it, sounds like fender was pushed towards the door. What do you guys think? I'm not going through insurance because I don't want another claim on my record and damage reported to the car's history.

When you get it fixed, check the panel alignments and gaps. I did not count how many times I fiddled with that to get it to a state acceptable to me. First I noticed the door was sticking out, then the hood-fender gap differed compared to the other side, then the hood-bumper gap was too big to me, then the hood-bumper transition was not smooth. BMW doesn't do as good a job as Audi on these things and once you notice them, it can drive you nuts if you are OCD like me.

Honestly your bumper and hood is not that bad from the pic. Can’t see if the headlight is damaged and I see the wheel is damaged.

Just fender alone and paint will be about 800-1k. That’s for a decent job nowadays. If you go to a high end shop you’re looking at 3k easy

What weird angle of being hit! Almost Looks like someone swung the back door of a van pretty hard into it.

That's what it'd be like when you start noticing things. I bought my car used, so when I noticed some rattles, I spent the first 6 months and 6k miles of endless testing to hunt down all rattles that I could detect
I hope the OP will be looked after well by whoever's doing the repair.

That wheel looks like it took a bit of damage also. Not going into the morality of not wanting something reported but is spending what looks like 3k minimum and potentially going to 5-10k depending on if there’s frame damage worth it to save on insurance premiums and depreciation?

I think your making a mistake by not using your insurance. Maybe get a couple estimates before you 100% decided to out of pocket this deal.
since you weren't driving... it may affect your insurance less than you think.

Done right that isn't gonna be less than 5k. I had similar damage and I won't say how much it cost but it was shocking.

Also consider getting it fixed asap and selling it while prices are still pumped up.... this will help eat the accident depreciation

prolly not what you wanted to hear and Not super helpful but...eh its free advise.

Yeah that looks like a new bumper, fender, hood, and possibly a headlight if the tabs are damaged. Probably will fall out between 5-10k, wouldn’t be surprised if it pushed 15k. I’d honestly go thru insurance given how many potential items need to be replaced

Thank you all. Driver side light was scuffed up but still intact and not cracked. Hood is also free of damage seems like its just sanding down headlight, replacing & painting bumper and fender. Do you guys think that'll push 3k if i buy aftermarket fender and bumper for under 2k then get it mounted and painted at bodyshop?

sooo using insurance is a big hell no for you?. sounds like you put yourself in a crapy place with your driving history.

Personally I hate seeing these cars repaired on the cheap. I see it all the time. Clean Carfax no accidents but obvious resprayed parts bad panel gap ect ect...whatever.

Based on CA prices (assume NYC is similar given its a comparable major market) you’re looking at $1500 for a good bumper respray and another $800-1000 for the fender. This is with a top line body shop and not just a local body shop that does stuff cheap. That’s before you factor in the price of parts which if OE you’ll spend $2k, aftermarket probably around $1k. I would budget $4k at least if you’re trying to keep it off the insurance and have a good job done on it.

Got rear ended by drunk driver in my e46 325, had my E90 328 hit while parked which insurance did not cover because I only had liability but still raised my premiums for, and hit a deer with my 435 last year. Safe to say i've been unlucky and a 4th claim in a 4 year span feels like it would only do me harm

I'm counting and I'm not sure you are at 4 claims. It's not a claim if you are not at fault and it's not a claim if you have liability and you can't make a claim.

That's what insurance is for man. It will be ok. Suggest you file the claim and let it be.

This may be a bit off topic, but I’m sure the store has video in the parking lot.

Looks like it's just a fender and bumper repair. Can you take some pictures of that side of the engine bay. I don't think there's any unibody damage underneath.

This is why you have insurance.

At a minimum the light mounts are broken or the portion of the frame that it’s mounted to has to be looked at. The light looks a little low relative to the hood.
