I've been considering this controller for a while now, but haven't pulled the trigger, because I was worried it might look out of place. Tim

how to code
I have an old idrive controller. After the host upgrades the EVO system, pressing the TEL button displays the navigation interface. Pressing the RADIO button is actually the media menu, which seems to be the function corresponding to the new control value button. How to code to correct the problem that the button function does not correspond?

Picked up one of the ceramic iDrive controllers from darkw1sh in the Classifieds and finally got it installed. The connector plug was an absolute pain, but WOW.
I absolutely love the look of the ceramic knob against the CF. If it wasn't for the CF panel, it would look more out of place since it's so different from the rest of the plastic buttons. But the overall look and feel is terrific. I also don't miss the lighted ring like I thought I would. The tactility and quality look more than make up for it. Old first to easily compare then the New: |

I'm worried about falling down a rabbit hole with trim pieces like that.
A ceramic DCT knob though.... |

It does get fingerprint smudges fairly easily. But that's really only if I'm trying to use the touch-writing, which I never do. I also keep a swifter duster and a small microfiber in my glovebox to get rid of the dust on the dash regularly, so it's easy to keep clean.

Guys i have just purchased a ceramic iDrive knob from eBay and tried to install on my 2018 CS. The knob is not working. I can press the button to wake the dash while the car is off and the iDrive buttons light up for few seconds then goes off. Anything I have missed? Did I get the wrong part or it's a bad unit?

Sorry, no idea why not either. For the older interface where the buttons match it's just plug and play. When they swapped over to that newer button design, maybe there's something different in the programming between your 2018 and whatever series that ceramic module came from.
Good thing it was easy enough just to swap the cover plate. |
