I'd recommend Bootmod 3. I've had 3 different tunes and the BM3 is the best option in my opinion.

If you decide to go down that route I'd suggest contacting this guy.

Loads of info here.

If worried about warranty then JB4 or BMS Stage1 for easy gains and nice features. If not BM3 for flash tuning. If you want the most power and most features then use both.

Jb4 is the most advanced Piggyback ... If you plan on keeping the car stock, get the stage 1

Hey Mike, is the stage 1 pretty safe? I’ve been reading and hearing that due to the sudden onset of boost, the charge pipes could come off or what not. Thoughts?

I actually have the stage 1 on my car and I do like it, but if it’s safer to get an ecu tune with a more linear boost curve, maybe that would be better? Planning on keeping the engine stock besides stage 1 or an ecu tune.

The stock charge pipe needs to be replaced anytime you tune your car whether its stage 1 or stage 2.

Stage 1 is safe

Ah man. That sucks. I wish the burger site was a bit more clear on needing charge pipes. Time to uninstall.

You don't "need" the charge pipes to run the tune. It is recommended at higher psi, but only because they CAN fail. You are certainly not going to grenade your engine if they DO fail, but will go into limp mode as you lose boost.

I think quite a few guys run the tune without upgrading pipes

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. I have customers running stock chargepipes for years at 500+whp. Most replace them when they actually break as sometimes they never do, but if you plan to race the car a lot, it's a good proactive modification and its something I normally recommend with a tune, but its not absolutely necessary.

The F80 platform charge pipes aren't the worst BMW has made. The N54 and F30 N55 ones are absolutely horrendous and pop like crazy.

I know people running high HP on N54, N55 and S55 with stock charge pipes.I never said it has not been done, its dangerous since there is a risk of the CP failing. Not something i would recommend to a new user

Most of your customers replace their charge pipes when they break? So pretty much wait until the car needs to be towed, they have to rent a car for couple days, and get a charge pipe overnighted to them?

Bah! I’ve been on a charge pipe research mission all night!

I see that BMS came out with a cold side j pipe as well. Is that needed as well?
