Perhaps invest in some hearing aid. Let's not fool ourselves. The M3 is nowhere close to any of the cars you have mentioned having owned. Hell, even the M2 sounds better. My m3 has the MPE with AA mid-pipe and sounds a whole lot better than stock but nowhere near what I would call exotic. The closest I ever got to an exotic sound was on my previous car - E90 M3 with the V8.

With an MPE the F80 sounds just as good as many Porsches.
I was specifically referring to the "exotic" comment. Some people like the sound of the m3 and some don't but imo there is nothing remotely exotic in the way it sounds.

Not sure about most of the M3 owners here but the only reason I have my M3 is because there are no other manufacturers who sell MT high performance family sedans. The sound of the car isn't the best but it's a trade off given the MT situation in the current marketplace.

I agree with this. It may have flaws but overall between looks, performance, the ability to get a 6MT (or DCT for that matter), huge enthusiast community and knowledge base, utility, it is the best dual personality car.

I think it sounds exotic. When I took a test drive, the first thing that hooked me was the high pitched scream. Especially at wot. If you want a v8 rumble, which I dont, you'll be disappointed. If you want the string section of the orchestra on meth, you're gonna love it! I love the fact that it is a unique sound. At idle, it's a little meh
But open her up and its wonderful. Very frenetic. As the pitch rises, so does speed. All adds to the joy of it. Wouldnt trade the sound for anything.

Ok I give up. Sure let's just agree that the m3 sounds like a Ferrari. I heard the sweet sounds of a wailing v10 the other day and was shocked to find an M4 driving by and not a Huracan. Sounded identical!

Dont want it sound like a ferrari or a Lamborghini. If you think a v10 is the hallmark of sound, then your frame of reference and lame sarcasm only further my point. My straight piped v10 didnt sound as good as my m3.
Not to mention, we dont have to agree. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. All that matters to me is do I like it.

Undiscerning people compliment the sound of my M4 all the time - it is a stock exhaust with valves permanently open

So is it just snobbery that prevents enjoyment? If the uneducated masses like it, it must be a cut above! Bravo!

I'm dumbfounded by all the "sounds exotic" comments. But you're all entitled to your opinions, as long as you're ok with being wrong

The F8X platform will be remembered as the last true real-wheel drive M3/M4 if BMW goes X-drive with the new design.

The only thing I can think of to call it exotic: it sounds like absolutely nothing else on the road today. For better or worse. That is for each to judge themselves.

Actually, there really is no right or wrong in this situation, so what makes people that disagree with you to be wrong?

Agreed. My opinion regarding the F80/82 is mixed. In everyday drivability, it is by far the best M3/M4 ever made coming from a guy who has had one of every every M3/4 since the E36. In terms of pure fun, I think the E92 and E46 may have the F80/82 beat, by a little. In terms of engine sound, the E92 is the clear winner by a mile. In terms of handling and braking, the F80/82 is the clear winner. In terms of overall package, the F80/82 is the best IMHO. I am on my second F80/82 so that is a testament to how much I like this chassis.
