Very moving. Lost my father a few years ago, he got real sick a couple of times unfortunately- it was nice to be there for him.

Like it very much!

Although I would have liked that BMW also use more female drivers from time to time in their ads, to promote their M or other models... not only pregnant / passive ones who only are passengers or look at the nice male driver from afar.

I'am probably the only moron here that doesn't understand anything of the message that this clip wants to transmit.

When I see it, I feel pitty for the father, who has gone sentimental on his own past achievements (narcism), and the 16 year kid trying to risk the family fortune paid M2 by smoking the Pilot Sports in a few laps in a poor attempt to please the father figure.

This makes me believe further that the father failed dramatically in raising his kid when he was still physical and mentally capable doing so. And failed to bring his kid to a mature sense of responsability, required to master an M2.

In the process, the father ideates his ancient memory to the E36 318is which is no tribute to the machine the M2 actually is in the present and to my opinion, just proves the fathers cerebral dysfunction overall.

But again, the rest sees something different apparently?

The father was a race car driver and loved driving.

The son is 16 and he can drive now.

The father was paralyzed and put in a wheelchair and he can't drive his M2 anymore.

His son gave him some of that back by taking him around the track in his M2.

What's hard to understand?

My initial thoughts was the father got in a racing accident and became wheelchair bound. Then his son takes him out in his m2 that he got for his 16th birthday. Both experience lots of joy.

However if this was real life, the father would have not want to get into another m car after his accident let alone be in one with his son driving who just got his license. Against his better judgement he agrees and gets in the car. After the first corner of screeching tires, dad gets flashbacks of the wreck and freaks out causing his inexperienced son to lose control and total the m2. The end.

Was actually done by a rather talented independent filmmaker.

thank God it's not from BMW. It would be the worst product placement I've ever seen:

1. when you are a bmw fan, you end up in wheelchair. The father succeeded, the son is immediately trying hard to.
2. An M2 is an ideal car for youngsters the first day that they acquire their drivers lincence. You can directly start pulling high speed powerslides with the DTC off. On top, your father will encourage this hooligan behaviour.
3. The M2 is not much of a car since the experience today cannot trump the +20 years old memory of driving a 318is.
4. When a father is driving with his young son, he's not in the slightest proud on his son or his ride, no, he's just getting overtaken by sentiments about his own historical achievements.

LOL... still don't get it.

how about this:
  1. Dad was an accomplished driver in his younger years.
  2. Son is also a major car guy.
  3. Dad can't race anymore, perhaps due to a medical condition, like multiple sclerosis. I don't see an accident suggested.
  4. Son gets his license and for his first drive, takes Dad back to the track - so they can share the experience together.
  5. The Dad is NOT proud of his son? Did you miss the big smile as he looks over to the young man?

My two cents worth.

No wonder, he's only a kid in his early 20s and his father suffered a heart attack when he was 14.

I thought the ad was OK, really meh. (And yes I'm a father with multiple kids). I thought the Audi ad was much better.

There's something about having a (relatively) young father in a wheelchair who was a former BMW race car driver that feels off to me if you're selling cars. As well as a newly-licensed 16 yr old in an M2.

Yeah, I considered this scenario amongst many others. But a good promo film should not have this much freedom for total diametral opposites in interpretation. It compromises the message brought across.

So maybe yes, it could also be the synopsis of a beautiful story. It might as well not.
