First BMW M4 Coupe Video Footage: Performance Testing at the Ring
BIMMERPOST NEWS First BMW M4 Coupe Video Footage: Performance Testing at the Ring We brought you the first photos of the 2015 M4 Coupe prototype earlier today, now have a first live look and listen at the prototype in action on the Nürburgring. What you're seeing and hearing is the F80 M3 / F82 M4's anticipated inline 6 cylinder engine with multiple turbochargers, pushing approximately 450 horsepower. The engine has been rumored to be an extensively reworked and reinforced N55 6-cylinder engine with a strengthened aluminium block with a heavily modified cylinder head. The Induction technology is said to be completely new as will be the latest bi-vanos variable valve timing. But, we also think there may be a possibility that the engine turns out to be a reworked/enhanced version of a successor engine to the N55 (which has not yet been introduced). The photos of this prototype posted earlier today shows that this is a DCT transmission equipped M4. Keep in mind that a prototype's sounds are one of the aspects of the development process and what you hear now may very well undergo further changes. For comparison sake, we have also posted the latest F80 M3 sedan prototype spy video (also from the Nürburgring). Expect the F80 M3 to be introduced in late 2013 - early 2014 and the M4 to come no earlier than late 2014. Seeing videos of each in motion, seems like the F82 wheelbase looks a bit too long, vs. the F80 which seems exactly right, in proportions. I realize the wheelbases are likely identical, just observing the proportions to the overhangs/greenhouse/etc.

Say hello to torque and lots of it, even at low RPMs.
Say hello to a more decent fuel range and mileage.. Sound of the engine - tbd.. and no fake speaker sound please.. |

And I know that Jason points out that the exhaust note is still under development, but god does it sound depressing right now...

If not there'll be the next generation Lexus IS-F, powered by a NA 5.0l V8 making 460 PS. It will rev higher, have better throttle response, sound better, and have better stearing. Now the M3/M4 could be lighter though.

I think it sounds pretty good considering what it is. We just need to come to the realization that it will definitely not sound as good as the current S65. But at least it will be more efficient, have more HP, way more torque, and lighter. I'm ok with sacrificing a little sound for all that. Or just slap a blower on your S65 and call it a day. But then don't bitch about your warranty!!

These are such exciting times. I actually kind of like the exhaust note.

Am i the only one who thinks it doesnt sound bad at all? I think it sounds pretty good actually. Obviously not as good as the outgoing model but with some akrapovic exhaust i bet it would be a beast! Cant wait to see the final form and numbers.

Yeah sure but will it actually have a real transmission? DCT? 6 speed? If not that is a deal breaker.

waiting for confirmation on the engine. hopefully it's built like a tank and has great potential like the n54 and is not a dud like the n55. if you were in the market for a new car would you get a cts-v now or wait for the m3 sedan and hope that it's a winner?
