On top of that, I've owned both N54 and N55 and they are already great motors, if M manages to reduce turbo lag and improve power beyond 6,000RPM even a little, they'll have a winner in my eyes. I really hope the M4 and 4 series in general comes with more bright colors. The F30 is barely available in any interesting colors and I'm not too interested in paying five grand for Individual paint. |

Why, because torque has very little to no bearing on how fast the car will be?

We can assume the new motor will rev higher than 7,000 but probably not much more, with the M5's redline sitting at 7,200RPM, so they won't be able to make up for low torque with very short gearing like they have traditionally done. If you put short E92 M3 style gearing on a motor with a 7,000-7,500RPM redline, you would end up shifting way too often (assuming manual transmission, this isn't a big deal with a DCT). So, if we know that the redline will be lower than the 8,400 of the current M3 and that the gearing will necessarily have to become taller, it comes down to weight savings and increased torque to get it to accelerate more quickly than the current car. As a result of this increased torque, we will obviously see an increase in horsepower. Since horsepower is defined as 550ft/lb per second, if the rumors of ~400lb/ft of torque are accurate we could see 380 horsepower by 5,000RPM (assuming the motor can maintain full torque at this RPM and isn't beginning to drop off too badly). An N54 / N55 is still making peak torque around 6,000RPM and I would think that one of the key goals for the new M motor would be even more high-rpm power. If that's the case, then a motor making 400lb/ft at 6,000RPM would also make 456 horsepower. I think we can safely assume a healthy horsepower bump over the S65 unless they use ridiculously tiny turbos or manifolds or something that would prevent the motor from making much torque above 5,000RPM. |

They simply didn´t understand the HDZ-Concept ! With the rest of your statement you are right ... but THIS would be - according to my informations - most probably the case ... the new engine would be an little bit heavier than the S65 ! Last edited by Uli_HH; 12-12-2012 at 04:58 AM.. |

If its like this, I'd buy it. But lets be realistic, the profile wouldn't be like this and I'd have to wait for KW, tuners and accessories to catch up before it looks like this. But then again, that's what makes it different. Different means special to me.

my current E93 M3 was going to be my last BMW before i make the jump to porsche. but, this is stunning. i guess i'll stick around for another M, but do -not- like the M4 nomenclature.

just noticed the pheonix yellow car has a small subtle front lip/diffuser on it like the m6 does. (Honestly I didn't notice the M6 coupe had that for a good few weeks after it revealed)

Here is what we know:

Remonster/Blacklight - are there still talks of having an electric turbo thrown in the mix for the new M3/4? Maybe that would pick up around 5-6k RPM and take it out to 7k for some additional top end power? ? ? I love the high revving NA motors and quick throttle response. I trust the ///M team of engineers is working very hard to get this right in the turbo 6.
These renders and those form the other thread are drop dead gorgeous. I'm sad to see the M3 badge won't grace the new coupe. It feels like the end of an era/tradition. However if the M4 looks like this, weighs around E46 levels, has more power/torque, tighter body etc...it's just gonna be a killer. No matter what I'm excited to see it. |

I think it looks great, but a turbo engine is a deal breaker for me
If they had kept the S65 engine, then it would have been an amazing car that I wouldn't waste a second and get one.
