F80 M3 they did a superb job!! ....M4 looks oversized in the rear for a coupe. M6 has much nicer relative proportions vs M4.

Most important comparison: price

I only care about the sedan:
E90 base price was 55k/56k
F80 base price will be 62k

No thanks

The front end of the F82 is hunching up and getting ready to eat the ground with its labia teeth while grimacing like a mf. In other words, it looks awful.

However, I do like the rear deck, taillights, side skirts, engine bay and interior (minus the steering wheel and seat emblems) of the F82.

Did I mention how terrible the front end on the F82 is? It's so impossibly bad.

I wanted to quote Swamp but getting a DB error (up w/ a toothache; maybe the db is offline), as I agree.

Thanks for this post, Jason. This design is very evolutionary ... safe. But then, I like 911s' history and Porsche, with the 911, is the very definition of the term.

Interior is where the leap has been made; and I suspect in the electronics also. Way of the future (more on electronics and drive-train efficiency)?

Do you have a profound fear of losing your penis to "labia teeth"? Only joking, love the description

I'm w/ you: like the M4 mostly except the front. I surmise driven by aero - for more awful just see the 'proboscis monkey' and 'anteater' aero-fronts of this season's F1 cars! Utterly fugly

Isn't it interesting how that iDrive and the Bangle era designs were so controversial at the time, yet they were incredibly influential and forward thinking? BMW deserves a lot of credit for their boldness and pushing the envelope during that era. I think they have played it a little too safe recently.

Well said.

Not so. The last three ///M3's have had some hood ventilation. E36, E46, E92.

Arthur St. Antoine of Motor Trend magazine says about the E9X: "World's single greatest car? Seriously? Yes – the new BMW M3 is unquestionably a contender. Probably no other car combines so many virtues – speed, handling, good looks, roominess, practicality – into one package. Driving the new BMW M3 is an absolutely blissful experience, flooding your brain with dopamine as if you were arriving to courtside seats at the Lakers game with Jennifer Connelly on your arm." -and- "If you put an F1 car and a premium sedan in a blender, the M3 would be the cocktail that pours out. Mmmm, nothing else like it. A toast then: To the BMW M3, the greatest all-around car in the world."

Let's just hope this new one can live up to the big shoes it has to fill.

I think it will far exceed what E9X M3 was with one exception, sound.

It's an I6 turbo not a v8, doesn't matter what you do it. The new M will spank the old M in every category and sound is not that important to me when I am lapping the e92m on the track :-)

I would say sound and, most likely, steering.

Yes so as that wasn't the point; the E92 M3 had model specific hood vents. The E46 had them across the entire line from 318i to M3. So that the F8X doesn't have them is not news as the F30 does not either. I'll give you the E36 though.

Not sure what the argument is - the F82 looks better from every angle inside and out, it's a great improvement on an already good looking car. And it will perform better as well and it's lighter to top it off.

The only area where the E92 will always have it beat is the sound of that glorious V8, but that's about it....

Once again, no argument here, F82 hands down...

longer wider lower power up weight down. - perfect

style wise for me in real life the M4 has presence especially the rear quarter. something no photo really captures. the e92 seemed like reverse teardrop shape to me hence why i preferred the e90. now the coupe stands out. sedan looks good in person too but not as athletic as the coupe to me.

I got to say F82 looks wise for sure, but why did they have to get rid of the S65 V8??? That was the best part of the e92 M3.

Some of us don't want our cars too large. The M4 crosses my threshold and is too big. Drive a new 3 series to get a hint of the increased size. When I replace my M3 I may go for a smaller -and faster - Corvette. A shame after 8 years of M3s.

E92 ages so well, but F82 looks much more aggressive.

To me it's like someone who's trying too hard to make it different
Not someone who's trying to design a nice clean shape

I think the e92 shape has aged very well
Doesn't look old, and still looks good
To me the new model looks a little Japanese
I.e. Overdone and in your face type styling
Can't believe we get this shit after the bangle years
Thought we'd already paid our dues in that respect
so you're more about looks vs what's inside the M4. You'll probably be driving an M4 in the future when you hear nothing but accolades.

btw, you sound racist!

It's funny reading some of these posts bashing the M4. What does the E92 have that tops the specs of the M4? For some is the looks and sound? I can't even explain that some like the old interior better...really? you probably have a cassette player too? well, I guess it's different strokes for every folks!

Get over it peeps, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. The M4 hands down is the new M3 and wins in every angle. We don't know its true performance yet so why even talk about it?

We'll see who gets smoked at the track :-)
