They need to sell more M4s.
New headlight change on M models is never heard of.
It's a good thing.
M3s sold better out of the gate. I was at Competition BMW in Smithtown NY this past week, they have FIVE M4s, four of which are gathering dust in the backlot, and they had ZERO M3s. Will BMW get smart and increase M3 production and cut back on M4?

If only a few GTS goodies get included make sure that the water injection system and HP bump is on the list.

Thumbs up on OLEDs and LCI overall.

Doubt it, you can already get the comp package exhaust or opt for the MPE from the factory. Plus the M3 has the same exhaust and it sells.

Why does it have those ugly outstanding tail lights from the body? The F3x/F80 tail lights looks much better integrated to the body. It´s cool with OLED/LED tail lights, but put it for damn shit flush with the designlines.

Call me crazy, but perhaps BMW is redoing the HVAC controls to add vent seats. I just cannot imagine BMW offering a car with production ending in 10/22 (F36) w/o vent seats when all the competition has it ("Hey folks, come spend $60k on this 2021 440i Gran Coupe WITHOUT vent seats"!).

I understand the F30 LCI didn't include this change, but maybe that's b/c BMW could get away w/o offering this feature until MY2018 with the replacement...

I have NO idea how expensive it would be engineer them into seats that currently don't offer them, but it's just my guess....

There is no need to cover up the interior unless there is a change.

That's the key question! If not, a retrofit should be easy, even if the bumper shape changed to accommodate the new lights.

Argument For: It makes no sense for BMW to continue to source the current xenon/led headlights for one model (F80), then the rest of the LCI line-up uses a different headlight (F32/F33/F36/F82/F83).

Argument Against: The F80 would only have one model year with the updated lights.

True, but it will be in production for at least 16 months (July 2017 to October 2018). Perhaps longer if the 4/M4 LCI, which will definitely coincide with the start of MY2018, hits earlier in the year and the 3/M3 are also bumped to MY2018 at the same time.

It's a good thing.
The M4 to M3 production ratio has been said to be as high as 8:1, so while there may be a few extra M4s sitting around on lots, the total number of M4s already sold is comparatively much greater.

This is simply an update to maintain interest and increase the ASP of the F8x platform.

They have to have a supplier of the existing headlights for the cars on the road now for repair/replacement so it's not like they will suddenly stop sourcing them.

Ah! That makes sense. So another check for the "against" camp.

What he didn't mention though, is that the fewer parts variations there are, the cheaper the vehicles are to manufacture. And the fact that the F80 is built in Regensberg with the F33 and F83 may make this an even more important factor in this case.

I am pretty sure the F80 front end is the same as the F82. Therefore the conclusion is that if this truly the F82 LCI, then the M3 gets it too.

I find it interesting that Scott's been silent - usually he readily jumps into threads like this one.

Especially since all he'd have to do is type two letters.

EOP for F36 is more likely 02/21, but that's still 5 years away. I still don't think we should expect vented seats on the F3x chassis. Would likely require wiring changes, and keep in mind the F32/F33/F36 are not really volume sellers, and that's a pretty substantial change.

BTW I think the covered dash is hiding alcantara.
