Carbon Fiber Roof or Moon Roof?

Just curious how many of you are considering the moon roof option over the carbon fiber roof. I might be one of the few that would enjoy the open top on this model -- especially here in southern Cal -- but don't want to go with a full convertible. I've never been without a moonroof and my e90 had one. The M3 is a winner either way and I really love the way the carbon fiber looks on the AW sedan.

Your thoughts?

CF roof no question

I like moonroofs too, but the CF roof is the business.

I think everyone likes a moonroof but first and foremost it removes the cool looking and expensively engineered carbon roof.

For some of us a moonroof gets in the way and removes headroom, they also get dirty and IMO don't look as nice as the CF roof.

No problem. While some only want the carbon fiber roof I definitely am torn. I was torn over getting one on my 2011 M3. Went with a moonroof for that one.

I love moonroofs but would get Carbon fiber any day over it, takes away from the "character" of the M3/M4 if you get a moonroof, hope they switch the M5 to carbon fiber as well. I will leave the moonroof for the wife's SUV

Definitely go with the CF roof, especially if you're getting white. Much better looking, more headroom, and higher resale value.

I wish it had both as I use the moonroof, and a carbon roof will hardly be seen on a MG car. Chose carbon, because it's a differentiator for this car. It better not yellow and bubble like my OEM carbon interior trim.

When I saw the cars live parked next to an M6 GC with CF roof I decided that I can easily do without the CF roof but I would sorely miss my moonroof. It's only April and I already use it every day it's not raining and the days it is I still like the extra light it brings to the cabin.

I haven't seen any yellowed CF roofs on E92's.

I would prefer to get the CF roof but will get the sunroof option if it is indeed required (as all indicators suggest) to install the OEM roof bars.

This is my first time NOT getting a moonroof in a car - I took a deep breath and told my CA to change from moonroof to CF. My build is black sapphire and full black merino - coming from a '11 335is black sapphire/oyster with moonroof. I keep my moonroof/sunshade closed 99% of the time and figured to have something special as a CF roof - I had to stick with that option. Although I know I'm going to waffle on it for weeks...

My build week is last week of June probably due to the carbon ceramic brakes. Another reason - seemed contradictory to go carbon-ceramic brakes and then have a moonroof.

just nervous my black/black m4 will be a cave inside w/o the moonroof - hoping I can get some members to remind me I made the RIGHT decision!

Makes sense to me if you want to keep the weight down and you should get a bit more head room.

For me, if I were going with black/black, I may have considered going with the moonroof because you wouldn't really see it much against the black of the body color.

For me, I'm going with contrast and probably will be going minimalist with the M3: MW, DCT, adaptive suspension, CF roof and cloth....maybe rear sunshade because I won't be able to crack the moonroof....

I finally got my Euro Delivery pricing confirmed and sent off my build with moonroof to the dealer. It seems that it will be one rare M3. Close to 1 out of 10 from this poll has the moonroof and likely even rarer with a 6 speed + moonroof combo

CF roof for me. More headroom without a sunroof. A major reason why I didn't go with a RS5 after selling the GT3. Turned out ok though as I'd be a bit disappointed having a RS5 with the new M4 looming.

CF for me.

Today I was amused to realize that the interior room and headroom of the M3 are quite similar to my 550 with the likely exception of rear seat legroom. Can't lose headroom with a moonroof. This is my family car after all

I could have the first F80 M3 at our dealer but passed since it's got a moonroof.

The carbon roof has the "M" Double roof profile. It's going to look amazing.

Haven't missed it a single day in the M3. Driven from Baltimore to LA and back. Baltimore to Houston and back. Baltimore to BFE, Michigan and back. Not once have I thought to myself while driving... "Damn, wish I had the the sunroof today."

Also, I'd be surprised if someone had seen the CF roof in person and thought it "looked strange," regardless of color. The CF roof is part of what makes the car special.

Nothing against anyone who needs their SR (I understand the desire, I really do), but not in this car.
I dont agree the CF makes the car special. Its mostly a gimmick. Ive had each . My first e92 m3 white over fox red with cf roof, and now space gray over fox red with sunroof. Don't prefer one over the other but there's nothing really 'special' about it and the weight difference is negligible.

I personally think the double bubble on this car is nice and makes it stand out more on the f8x m3/4 than it did on the e9x m3.

Every single car I have every owned has had a sunroof but I am going to skip out this time. To have a CF is so much cooler at the end of the day and IMO I prefer the contrast of black CF with the exterior colors. I live in SoCal as well so if I start to miss the sunroof too much I'll order it in my next car.

I want the moon roof, but not in my car. I love them, and the original order of mine had one, but now all I can think is middle age. I swear, this car will kill me in the production week. I, who always decides everything in a big scale, and leaving the details to someone else, is obsessing about everything.

This is going to be the longest wait ever, too many details to change right now.
