I'm considering a trading my 2016 "civic" M4 MT for a leftover 2018 M3 CS. But, first I wanted to find out if it still has the carbon driveshaft. The official press release doesn't specify, and I could not find a definitive answer anywhere on this forum either.

Supposedly the special models weren't going to be affected by the change (https://www.thedrive.com/sheetmetal/...or-a-steel-one) but not sure if that was true or not.

Will this really affect your decision whether to purchase one or not?

I do, even though it could be steel right now and I wouldn't know the difference. I know it's dumb, but I'm a gear head so.......... |

I have a an M3 CS And I would be interested in the confirmed answer to that as well.
By the way...would you mind sharing what you would be paying for that leftover M3CS? I bought mine first week of December 2018 and paid 93,400. I know guys are getting the last ones around for less now but at least I did not pay the 104K sticker. |

Based on an article from The Drive - special models will continue to have carbon based drive shafts.

We'll see, not 100% sure about it yet. A lot of variables need to line up. I don't want to start the whole DCT vs MT debate, but I do love my MT. Hence why I'm having so much trouble with the decision. And yes, the carbon driveshaft is important to me because I want the car to feel special. |

I immediately lift the car up in the air as soon as i had the chance to confirm and make sure I didn’t get shafted.

C'mon, bro. We all know his lap times around the mall will be drastically lowered w/out the CF driveshaft....

Or is this just BS from BMW, cost cutting and then making the claim of a “A narrower, "M-specific high-performance" steel part will take their place instead. BMW asserts that it has engineered the steel shaft to retain the "superlative performance and handling qualities" achieved with the carbon fiber component”...to make us feel better? CF or special steel, whatever!

I can't imagine trading in my lowly '15 for a 100k+ CS and it having LESS features to make it go faster. In a vacuum, would it affect my purchasing decision? Probably not, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't piss me off.

A few guys on the CS facebook group have confirmed that the CS does indeed retain the carbon driveshaft.
