But going from an empty tank to full, or adding 100 lbs worth of anything is pretty easy to feel before/after IMO. Does it matter at the end of the day? No not really. Also, I take no offense to your comment btw whether directed at me or not

As it relates to OP's question - I think he should just go with G80. I've seen this guy swap cars on the forum, so based on that history he'll probably like having G80, its new, nice, and more capable - better daily driver as well. F80's (especially individuals) are just on a ridiculous high right now - they're worth no where near their current selling price tbh so if there's ever a time to take advantage of a market, it's now. A word of caution on that: I'm not sure that the current extreme listing prices are representative of consumer demand... or if they reflect high auction prices driven by low inventory. i.e cars are not selling at list.
Absolutely not directed at you! Cheers mate

I understand your sentiment tho - i think that sometimes we get too caught up in the heat of the moment especially with F8X vs G8X, at the end of the day you can’t argue with progress and honestly we’re all still driving some pretty sick machines. There will probably always be some sibling rivalry but that’s par for the course: E9X guys always whip out S65 like it’s an exhaust note d*ck measuring contest (which they kind are gonna win that one every time IMO), E46 guys refuse to associate with anyone else, E36 guys still fly completely under the radar with arguably the best M3 of the lot, and has anyone heard from E30 guys lately… F8X guys are just part of that group in which our schtick is gonna be DCTs and gorgeous looks

It's honestly hard to take this seriously. You have either some serious ADD or little to no insight about what YOU actually want.

You bought that LSB off a member here, said it was a 'unicorn' and then put it up for sale less than a few months later for nearly 6k more than you paid for it as 'you were eyeing' another car. Ok fine, people have wandering eyes - you played the market well. Great. You get another 'unicorn', own it for all of 6 months and put out a near 100k feeler - and now you're asking both forums whether it's smart to jump to a G80? Do you have any insight into what YOU actually like?

I mean it's a free country and it's your money, but do you like paying sales tax or something? I'm hoping it's a state where it only happens on the differential, otherwise...damn.

As for the G80 vs F80 question, you asked both sides of the camp. I assume you know the G80 side is going to tell you to go that route because it's so fast and more capable...and the F80 side will tell you the G80 looks like the pig from angry birds. What are you hoping to gain?

If you find some idiot to pay 100k for your unicorn then sell it and buy a G80. Or I dunno, figure out what you want out of these cars - DD? Track work? Cars and coffee prop? Or how about do what actually tickles your pickle...

You haven't put a roof rack on the F80 after almost 4 years so that seems like a moot point. Almost sounds like your trying to talk yourself into a shiny new toy when your current one isn't broke
Only owned the car for 8 months. And I don't want to use a seer sucker rack. I want the factory mounts if I am putting a roof box on top for family trips.
I've logged a few thousand miles with the sea sucker and it's flawless.

Agreed, every generation was different and special in its own way. We do get too caught up with what makes them different vs what is common to all of them.

For sure I'll have a G8X because I'd like a 2022 car with a manual as a daily, and then I'll have three generations of Ms and will have owned four

If you can proudly park that car in your driveway and look at it without cringing, then I say go for it.

That’s what I told myself and that is why I didn’t get a g80 lol.

Not paying 90k for a car and having to make myself like it. I still throw up when I see the g80/g82 on the road.

Keep the F80 and build out the suspension with SPL arms all around. It will perform better with much less cost

Only thing I want to know…. Did anyone in the G80 forum actually suggest you keep the F80?

Based on your write-up you clearly want the G80 so go for it - I've tracked it twice at Sonoma and Laguna Seca and it is incredible. I'm sure it's a wonderful daily as well.

All that being said, I find the exterior repulsive. As for the interior, I have a STRONG preference for the cleaner, classic, and almost utilitarian aesthetic of the F8X.

I also drive 6MT… the manual F8X is equal/faster, depending on where you are in rev-range, than the manual G80. So there's that… the data on this is extensive and thorough so I won't revisit it here.

Do this:

Get the G80. Post for sale next summer. Start eyeing the G80 LCI. Start new forum thread. Buy the LCI…. Repeat above with the X ///M

This all may be moot / as nice and rare as the Miami Blue is I don't think there is any F80 at all that can pull $98k right now - not even a low mile virgin CS will pull a $90k handle.

No offense OP - if you can get $98k I'll eat my words here and say congrats. Probably better to trade Miami on the G80 and save taxes.

Glad I wasn't the only one who saw this and pretty much laughed... its at least 10k over-priced.. but hey its a sellers market.

Means my CS must be worth at least 130k

Yeah, if you can find a taker for that price on your F80, that should be what makes the decision for you.

If you put a premium on color rarity then get the G80 in an Individual color

Do whatever fits your lifestyle and mood. (Which none of us really know) Life is short. Go for it.

Personally (I can’t believe I’m saying this as I am a tech junkie) the g8x seems very close to the m5 in tech and interior experience, just too much for a m3/4. And I love the styling of the M5 better.

So F8x preference for me. And keep your f80 vote from me.

In my opinion…

Keep the F80 for the transmission

Get the G80 for the motor

Colors aside I think that’s the way to choose.

You sound like you liked the motor and were neutral on the ZF. So I think you should go G80.

I really like the green color scheme. Given the tech and performance upgrades I vote G80.
