I agree with you here, specially if you have stock downpipes with primary cat back exhaust. All exhausts on this car have loud cold start but that's only for the first 20 seconds or so, after that they are not much louder than stock at idle or light throttle. So in that sense I feel that the valves are not necessary and are over rated until you go catless all the way. I don't use the valves on my AWE resonated and it has gotten almost twice as loud since I first had it installed. Maybe I should have gone with a valveless exhaust and saved on whatever the extra costs were. If I were to have a fully catless v8 than I would probably want valves at that point because some get ridiculously loud.

MPE will keep your emissions in tact because it keeps most of your cats in place. It's also some what down to DPs as far as I know. You'll be able to get better deals with MPE though. It will be cheaper by quite a bit.

You know why I know? I been jumping about regarding this choice for damn near 3 months now so.

Edit: Hmm I think MPE goes down to Mid-Pipes sorry.
Have you considered the RPI exhaust, it's sounds good and is probably slightly quieter than an AWE resonated set up. The only thing is that it's valveless but I don't really think they are necessary on this exhaust and it's competitively priced also. It does delete the secondary cats and replaces them with a ser of resonators.

For those with Catless DPs, a Flash Tune can easily disable Cold Start if it's a nuisance.

Since you work in sales I expect you out of most people to understand the fact that people have different tastes, preferences, and simply like having the option.
Never said people dont have the right to ask for valves, just stated my opinion that they are not needed with this exhaust.

From a manufacturer's points of view adding valves to this exhaust would not be a smart move. It would satisfy the minority asking for valves, while driving a larger number of potential customers away because of increased price

Exactly.
Keep in mind AWE is noticeably louder than AA. Adding Catless DP to AWE will make the valves mandatory for daily driving.
Adding catless DP to AA, will still keep that exhaust daily driving friendly even with no valves

This is an excellent point you make for those doing a flash tune and also going with an aftermarket exhaust and/or downpipes.

I could see AA easily offering both options. Mid-pipes would be the same for both, but offering different muffler options (with and without valves).

Correct me if I am wrong, but the picture depicted on the US web site seems to be the same as the EU "race" system that also parts with the secondary cats even though it is advertised as a "cat back" system.

I guess one could cut the OE exhaust to keep the secondary cats and only install the mid-pipe section à la MPE.

Catback does not necessarily mean exhaust keeps the cats (in the midpipes)
It refers to the exhaust changing mufflers and midpipes

Other companies use terms like downpipe back or turbo back, referring to the exhaust changing everything starting from your downpipes to your mufflers

So to my point, US cat-back = EU Race ?

Exhaust on the F8X platform i feel is all personal preference, since you'll hardly se any real gain unless you got will a full system, IE Catless DP's and the works. That being said subscribed to this thread since I'll be in the market for an exhaust shortly, and by shortly i mean not for a while but I'll have this thread to help me choose when the time is right

So sounds like I want the Remus axle-back then. This would be the only "performance" related mod I'll be doing to this car so seems like consensus is the Remus sounds best with cars that are mostly stock.

On a fully stock car, Remus axle would be a good addition if you are looking for a deep and aggressive sound
