Poll: How many of you spun the crank hub?
Yes, I know, I know ... there are tons of threads on here from people either asking "when am I going to spin my crank hub", "if I tune, will I spin my crank hub", etc, etc...
Yet, with all these threads no one truly knows the percentage of cars, tuned or stock, that have spun their crank hubs. So I hope this thread will help put some numbers to it ... Please post year, mods, mileage, and if you spun your crank hub. Hopefully, we can get some real data and put this question to rest. Yes, I know there could be other factors at play, but this can give some insight into the real-world chance of this happening. I'll go first ... 2020, 3600miles, Intake/chargepipes/Catless DPs/no tune, no spun hub |

There are a number of polls on this. Here is a good one that not only breaks it down by stock/tuned, but year also:

If it spins it spins and you shouldn’t worry about it.
If you worry about it there are ‘solutions’ It might even be more common for people with issues to search topics for it and people here might power and drive their cars above what it was made for more so than average joe which could increase the cases as well. |

I would disagree with your statement "if it spins it spins" due to the fact that the repair(s) can be quite pricey.
Im really just trying to understand the "chance" of this happening regardless of year/model... just a raw number. For example, if 95% of the poll takers didn't spin their hub, then there's a small chance it happening to me or anyone else for that matter. |

That's fairly cheap, who did the install ( location) and which hub did you use?

Right, so If you wanted to add that in, I got it on black friday for half off, so my total is $3,400.00 with the hub and capture plate.

I was planning to do the whole hub but after thinking it out - if, in the off chance, it spins with CBC($100), chances are low that it's going to bend a valve. At which point I'll beef up the hub and retime. If it spins and I do waste the motor, a freshly rebuilt block is only about $5.5k(https://www.ghassanautomotive.com/pr...bmw-s55-engine) |
