Seriously its over rated, but if you must squeeze one in - try for the M factory tour in Regensberg. Not sure if the same black out dates apply.
That's what I was thinking. I can't seem to find any info on dates it is closed.

You need to call them, they are not online... here is the number. This is for the M factory not the Welt.

How long does that tour take? We are kinda pressed on time. Am surprised you think the one at the Welt is over rated and everyone on here has really good things to say about it. Am guessing it pales in comparison to the one at Regensburg?

If I remember correctly like 2 hours or so?

I have not done the M tour, but I did Welt and South Carolina and yes its cool but after like 30 minutes Im good...I mean how long do I need to stair at a car being held upside down by a machine.... lol

I am a techy by nature and have seen countless shows on how cars are produced, etc. Here is a sneak peak at the munich plant

The M factory at least sounds more interesting because well... ITS AN M and thats why we are all here. At least I the connection to having seen where it was built... if you're into that kinda thing.

The plant tour takes anywhere between 2 and 3 hours, depending upon your guide, speed of your group, groups behind you, and how many people ask questions. Ours took about 2.5 hours last month. Remember, the english speaking tour is only at 11:45am.

The Munich plant tour, just as a clarification, produces M's (F82's to be exact) as well. I actually observed an AY chassis being "married" to the powertrain. It may have actually belonged to a forum member as he contacted me asking what date I was there, and as it turned out he said that his AY was being produced in that stage that day. Whether that was his or not, who knows...but it was a cool story

I stand corrected, you are right. I was speaking about M3, - when I went the M4 did not exist and I do not remember seeing any M's being built but honestly the only thing I was thinking was autobahn autobahn

Which isn't a bad thing to be thinking of.....as much as I enjoyed all the touring I did, the highlight of every day was hopping into the M and driving the autobahn.

I would have preferred the tour in Regensburg, as my car is an F80.

You aren't guaranteed to see any M's in production at the Munich plant. We were very fortunate to see one being produced at that exact time. If seeing an F82 being produced is important to you, you may be disappointed.

Having lived all over, you really really appreciate what true driving nirvana is when you're in Germany. I found myself itching to get back on the road at every stop...

Now I when think 2 hours looking at machines, or 2 hours at 115MPH... who am i kidding - i dont even think about it...

To be honest, driving in Germany has pretty much ruined me for driving in the US. I'm finding myself getting so annoyed at how awful the roads are, how poorly the vast majority here drive....ect. Stupid I know, but it really was driving "nirvana". I felt like saying "No, no!!! You can't make me go back to those roads!"

We are kindred spirits (like I imagine most who have done ED are...) 10 minutes back in DFW and I was already screaming obscenities at people in the left lane doing 55. Yes I am that guy who's head may actually explode in the front seat one day.

I have come to the conclusion (much as I have for leasing cars) that I will be doing ED every 3 years or there abouts.

For those on here that this is your first time - I say don't do it. There is no turning back. For those who have done it... you understand. We love to talk about it, plan it, relive it, and get an immediate "shit eating grin" at the mere mention of it. (3 more weeks, )

Absolutely and truly. I am driving with my 15 year old son and I point to two scenarios: "See how that car is sitting in the left hand lane doing 50? See that car passing using two lanes on the right and then swerving back into the left lane cutting people off?? That is how you DONT drive. People in Germany know this."

I'm sure there are d-bags in Germany as well that know how they shouldn't drive but do it anyway, but I didn't see any in my time. And at least you can be sure they KNOW. I think the bulk of drivers here don't even realize what they are doing is just bad driving.

But yes, we look back fondly to our ED's and have a little glassy-eyed gaze that comes over us as we think about that sublime driving. Christ, that first time you hit over 120......you're like a little stupid kid with goosebumps on Christmas morning. It's nuts. You'll never be the same. lol

Just curious, now that you have your date, what happens when you call the bmw financial services line to check on your order?

As long as your order is in 111 status, which it should be with an ED date confirmed, you can check the status online or via the 800 number, as far as I know...

Right now online when I put my production number in the add new vehicle section (unless I am doing it wrong) I get an error/nothing showing up.
