Thoughts on 19" to improve ride quality?

Hello all, I'm in MD and roads are crap. I daily drive a '17 F80 ZCP, and I've spent 1 summer on my stock 666s with Pilot Super Sports. I recently switched to Blizzaks on a square 18" set of BBS rims and I've been pretty surprised at the massive improvement in ride quality. I knew it would be a softer ride but didn't think it would be this dramatic.

Although I absolutely adore the look of the 666 rims this has me thinking that maybe a 19" summer set-up could split the difference? Does anyone have thoughts or experience with improving the ride over train tracks (which I cross daily) or potholes? Would a slightly lower performance summer tire on the 20" make more of a difference than say the same tire on 19"? I appreciate the advice.

18in with 40 profile tires is the way to go, will make a massive difference in ride quality as a daily. Could go with 35 profile in wider sizes as well, will still be better ride albeit not as good as a 40 profile. Lots of tire options at 18in

I went from the 666's to 19's while still running a 30 series profile all around. I am however running a 275 up front and 305 out back and as little or no change as it seems on paper, there's definitely an improvement in ride comfort.

What wheel widths do you run with those?

Thanks all for the replies, I have a season on the winters and probably another half on the summers to decide. I kind of prefer the look of 19s or 20s over the 18s, but maybe with some nice forged rims I could get used to the look of a meatier tire.

I went from 666M to 437M on my ZCP and ride quality definitely improved, but it's not significant. The reduced unsprung weight helps as well.

17’ comp. Here and I absolutely prefer the 19” 437M over the 666M due to looks and ride quality. I do have silver 666M and if I had shadowline 666M I would probably reconsider.

Gorgeous M3 there, and thanks for weighing in. I just love the look of the silver 666 wheels (on both my car and yours) but good to know that you notice a difference on 19" rims.

18’s for best ride quality.
19’s for a nice compromise of ride quality & looks.
20’s for looks.
